I have been coming here 3-6 days a week since Summer 2022 and was a typical sign up with the Costco deal and come in barely a few times a year type when they first remodeled years ago.
That being said, as someone who comes here consistently for serious weight training now, they have the essentials for you to get in a solid bodybuilding or powerlifting workout. I use the dumbbell bench area for Push and am currently at the 100s for chest but if I ever max the 120s I wish they'd at least get more dumbbells that go up to 150s like I have seen at some of the older 24s in SD. Only 2 of the adjustable benches have the pin to adjust lower seat height so I wish they fixed or added pins for the other 2 and replaced the flat only ones with more adjustable ones. For Pull I appreciate the turf area as I'm not taking up the racks for Deadlift and can get my minimum 8 plates with ease to do what I need and like that there's 3 different barbell options (Silver with 3 grip sections, Gray with rougher 2 grip sections, and my favorite Black with 2 grip sections). For Leg I like that they have at least 11 racks of choice from the 4 combined wood section to the 3 individual wood ones inside then 2 old school cages in front of the mirrors and topping it off with the normal one outside under the roof and my favorite nicely used wood one outside. The wood ones do all have a separate Deadlift platform so when it's packed if someone is nice enough to split with you for Squats or Deadlifts. Most everything else is sufficient but the Leg machines and Cable machines do break semi often.
What I don't get is the employees just chill at the front and the men's restroom is disgusting most of the time with the sinks varying water pressure and toilets overall squirting and overfilling. The water bottle fill stations too are all half out of order so clearly something is up with the plumbing in here, so upkeep needs attention. Don't use the hand dry machines as I have seen people stick their wet shoes on there to dry out.
Overall from a lifting standpoint place gets the job done but cleanliness and maintenance is desired. Best gyms I have been in SD when I had access were the Navy and Marine Corp gyms so I wish as tax payers we had access without needing to be military or DoD Contractors or Civilians as those are basically well...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been going here for a few years now, so I thought it was time I share my thoughts. This gym is extremely mediocre. To start off, their bathrooms are pretty disgusting and smell horrible, but if you donāt ever use them then it really isnāt an issue. Second, the workout equipment is somewhat alright. Everything is functional (aside from an erg and a stairclimber as far as I can tell) but the maintenance is subpar. The dumbbells always smell really bad, most of the cardio equipment is covered in sweat stains and grime, the equipment in the outdoor area is always strewn about the yard, and the mats outside get wet and smell mildewy, just to name a few things. The outdoor area is where I spend most of my time, not because it has better equipment, but because inside it is usually extremely muggy and sweaty, as there is no circulation, not to mention it is usually very overcrowded. I wish they had kept the bench press racks that were outside as well as the other squat rack, because then I would never need to use the indoor area at all. A huge issue they have is overcrowdedness, which is exacerbated by the fact that the google maps popular times algorithm always makes it seem way less busy than it is. Case and point: this morning I went (6am on a tuesday) expecting it to not be busy as per usual, but I ended up immediately leaving because every rack, bench, chair, machine, and treadmill were taken, inside and out. The only times I can really go here and finish my workout in a timely fashion is during the graveyard shift. The management/maintenance here really needs to do a once-over of this place and clean EVERYTHING, fix what needs to be fixed instead of leaving an āout of orderā sign, and turn on the air conditioning if not just the HVAC fans. They have way too many regular clientele for them to not have proper maintenance (not once have I ever seen a staff member cleaning anything). You might as well go to planet fitness for 1/3 the price to get a much better experience. I wish this place looked as good as it does in the photos on their website. Please, ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING instead of leaving a useless āthank you for your...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDirty and broken equipment EVERYWHERE. Iām not saying a broken tred mill hear or there. Iām saying every section of this place has multiple down or ill maintained equipment. EVEN THE TV was paused on a talk show for days! Multiple cardio machine buttons donāt work. Ripped, worn or saggy tred on the tred mills. Also theyāre covered in dust so all the sweat drips show. Mismatched free weights, look like they came from Craigslist because they donāt match anything else in the gymā¦. One of the leg rests on the lat pull down bar is basically falling off and just needs a simple wrench to tighten back upā¦.honestly seems pretty dangerous. The rubber is peeling off the kettle bells and is sharp. Pretty much all the equipment outside is rusted⦠So many of the safety pin lanyards are missing. Lots of ripped seats in the machines.
Itās hard to find the weights you need because people scatter them around the gym. Both indoor and outdoor weight racks are missing several of the 5lb-35lb dumbbells. The plates are just leaning up against random machines and walls.
For weeks now, In the bathroom thereās been what looks like grape jelly at the bottom of the wall, almost on the floor. It really makes me wonder if they clean the bathrooms at allā¦. For a week one of the stalls was out of order. Thatās fine but it looked like someone had pulled all the toilet paper and seat covers and they all sat there for days. No one cared to clean it up even if the stall was out of order.
Iāve never once seen a staff member clean or organize anything. Iāve only seen them in the lobby or during training sessions. Iām sure theyāre doing stuff but clearly this place is mismanaged if the floor can be so dirty and in disarray all the time. Iāve been told the gym is due for a refresh but that does not explain the health and safety concerns that should be basic management duties. Clean your bathrooms, tighten loose equipment, dust your machines, have your staff organize the equipment through out the dayā¦.
I come here 100% for the convenience and the contract. First day I regretted my decision and...
