A business is only as good as its worst employee.
And there are more than a few "bad apples" at this location. I've been coming to this gym for over 6 years now, and the only issues that have been present consistently have been 2-3 broken machines on a daily basis and unkempt restrooms at nights, which I've been willing to deal with.
Before my membership, which I acquired through Costco, expired this past Monday, I spoke with 2 individuals, who claimed to be managers, about using another Costco membership to renew. Since the Costco membership is now unavailable to "existing members," I was told that I would need to wait a period of time before using it (one told me 30 days, another said 90 days). So I allowed my membership to expire and I tried attending the gym with a guest pass, given to me by the gym years ago, which I had had personal guests use several times in the past year.
The male attendant who took it from me at the front welcomed me and I went to the bathroom before I would begin my workout. After exiting my stall, I noticed the same attendant waiting for me, telling me that I needed to check-in before I could continue. When I came down to the front to check in, a different female attendant questioned me about where I had acquired that guest pass, which I responded "from you guys."
She then told me the passes were expired, which I asked her to show me where the expiration was listed on the pass. She avoided answering since there was no expiration listed. She then told me about the "Costco transitional program" which is still $25 a month plus a $30 initiation fee. I declined, and told her that I was advised to wait before reapplying with a Costco membership. She interrupted and said the manager would call me to discuss their offers, and that I couldn't work out today unless I paid a $15 fee.
So what I learned is that you're only treated with respect and courtesy if you're an existing member, otherwise you can experience a sort of extortion. Now coming here for all these years, I've seen firsthand how people who have defaulted on their monthly payments, people whose memberships have also just ended, people in transitional periods, have all been allowed to work out and told to just pay whatever balance before the next time. How come I wasn't granted that courtesy? If they made the mistake of letting me in initially, did they feel it was appropriate to wait for me in a restroom to escort me to the front, under false pretenses just to try to get me to sign up for a new membership so they could collect on their commission/meet their quota? This lack of customer service, along with the humiliation I experienced, and disloyalty of this gym will prevent me from ever returning. I have brought countless people to sign up over the years since I've been a member, and I will advise everyone from here on out to choose a different gym, like Chuze, LA Fitness, or the Bay Club.
If corporate reads this, I strongly urge, as a business owner, to terminate those you leave in charge who lack customer decency, terminate those who give false information, and retrain those you keep. I am well aware there are some wonderful individuals, even at the Miramar location, who have helped me get deals for my family and friends throughout the years. But now I will urge them not to renew and to consider the alternatives. I am disappointed with this gym as a whole, and I plan to take my business elsewhere for the...
Read moreTo begin I love this 24 hour fitness, I have been coming to this location since 2017. I have much respect for the staff who work here. The location is good compared to other gyms. The facility is a bit outdated but the maintenance workers try their best to keep it up and running. With the extreme beatings the machines take, the maintenance man must have a lot here. So much respect to him and all the people who keep our gym running! However I must make this review to inform new people who would want to come here on some true harsh realities. There is an extreme lack of gym etiquette enforcement when it comes to the machines here. So if you expect to come here and use an upper body pin loaded machine you may be faced with an issue. The issue being the fact that one person here uses the same machine for upwards of 2.5 - 3 hours everyday. With a major portion of the time sadly spent on the phone. The machines being the lat pulldown, shoulder press, chest press, mid row, etc. If you ask him politely to work in he will say âno i'm busyâ and then continue to look at his phone. He is literally playing poker on his phone using the same machine for hours. No exaggeration either, this behavior and level of arrogance is quite astonishing. These are some of the best machines in the entire gym he is doing this on and for months now. When someone shows up to the gym there is a reasonable expectation to be able to use a machine. When you ask to work in on a machine. If you don't want to work in then just kindly wait for a person to be done. This is not the case at the Miramar 24 hour currently. Its like having the best machines out of order. I am unable to use them during my duration at the gym because of another member. There is a corporate 24 hour person on a video playing repeatedly on the T.Vâs talking about gym etiquette. Donât be that person to use the machine for an excessive amount of time. Donât be the person on your phone. Use the machine to exercise, not lounge. Finally wipe it down. If these rules are being played on repeat for the members to follow. Why canât they be enforced when situations get out of hand? There are people here extremely frustrated with this lack of gym etiquette enforcement and outright disrespect from another member. I was under the impression it was 24 hours equipment not specific members. Hopefully it will be addressed sometime soon cause I don't want to have to look elsewhere. I truly enjoy the gymâs staff, machines and...
Read moreI came here for the duration of a few months and man does this place have potential. Good location, friendly staff and decent equipment. However other members are the downfall of this gym. Actually, not members but a member specifically, who is blatantly abusing the laid back nature of the gym. He comes into the gym between 8:30am-10:00am and choses one machine to sit on and basically hogs it for a 2-2.5 hour period. He doesnât let anyone on the machine and he often will sit idle on his phone for 20-25mins at a time then do another set.The machines he sits are are some of the most popular machines in the entire gym. The machines like lat pulldown and biceps. The whole situation is absolutely ridiculous, he has no respect for others. People could have worked in and used the machine during the time he was just sitting on his phone. He literally is playing games on his phone. I politely asked to use the machine and he just looked at me and said he was in the middle of something then went back to his phone like I didnât exist. Never have I seen this level of rudeness from a person in a gym setting before like wow itâs unreal the level of arrogance being displayed. Total disrespect on so many levels and I'm surely not the only one upset by this machine hogging. It was to the point where I did my whole workout and then came back to the one machine after cardio and he is still on the same machine. It had already been 1 hour and 50 mins, are you kidding me? I had to head to work as my time is not infinite. What is wild is he knows I am waiting also so he is outright ignoring me, it is so peculiar. When I canât use a single machine over 1.5-2 hour duration that's a problem. I was shocked by this and itâs sad because the gym is having a hard time with staff as I see the same few faces and know that it takes a few more than that to run that kind of gym. He is taking advantage of the lower staffing at the gym and making his own rules, crazy. It is sad because all the staff are extremely polite and always doing the best they can for the gym. Myself and all the other members pay the same amount of membership fee to use the machines and gym facilities. Hopefully the GM can see this and fix the issue. The level of potential here is huge, definitely needs addressing so this issue...
