I'm a Persian myself and I was very excited to take my non Persian family to Orchid to try some Persian food. We ordered several stews, and Persian ice cream. The portions of stew were quite small and came with very little meat. The Persian ice cream was absolutely delicious and I highly recommend it. The ghorme sabzi was also very delicious, I just wish it wasn't such a small portion. I didn't really like the gheyme bademjoon, due to the golab (rose water) and cinnamon, which I'm not use to having in this dish, making it taste strange, but still it was acceptable. The Fesenjoon however was what made me the most disappointed. It was saturated with sugar, it had a nice walnut flavor but it was so sweet that I felt I'm eating dessert. They were kind enough to bring us lime, but even a half a lime juice couldn't fix it. I was also disappointed in service, especially since I had to keep asking for things such as water and they brought us dessert while all the other dirty plates along with raw onion that smelled, was still on the table. I also wished they turned on AC, as the restaurant was super hot, without any windows to open. The people running the place are very friendly but definitely not...
Read moreOrchid is a small, delicious, Persian restaurant located in a minimall on Miramar. During our Sunday evening dinner, the staff were excellent. The owner is very friendly and checked in on us regularly, as did the waiter. For appetizers, we got the hummus and a yogurt cucumber dish. The hummus was yummy and came with thin squares of Persian bread (not Pita) It also came with a plate with butter and two large chunks of onion, which the owner described as being akin in Mexican cuisine to taking a bite of a chile, for extra flavor. I think it was a sweet onion. I liked it. My main was the Baghali Polo with Chicken (You can get it with lamb or fish too) I really liked my food. The chicken was falling off the bone. There was a large plate of basmati rice flavored with dill, and the succulent chicken was served in a bowl sitting in a delicious broth. My wife kept reaching over and spooning some of the broth over her own rice dish. She got the Beef Shish Kabob which she liked a lot. This restaurant was recommended to my wife by a Persian immigrant who goes to her gym class. We...
Read moreWhere to begin… my boyfriend suggested getting dinner here after an amazing first experience last year. He wasn’t sure what to get, but the host was so accommodating he was able to try a little bit of some of the most popular dishes. The experience resonated with him, and he wanted to share the experience with me. First of all, the food is amazing. I’d grown up with a family friend that made many of the dishes featured on the menu, and it felt like I had made my way back there for a family dinner. Our host (the same one my boyfriend had had before) was super nice, and went out of his way to make sure we were going to enjoy all the components of our meal. The place is clean and quiet, honestly, I’m surprised it wasn’t packed. The service is exemplary, there wasn’t a single person that didn’t go above and beyond. If you’re in the mood to try something new, I would definitely recommend...
