A Promising Start for Jaybhavani Vadapav in San Diego!
Rating: 3/5 stars
I recently had the opportunity to try Jaybhavani Vadapav, San Diego's newest Indian food spot, and I must say it's a vibrant addition to the city's culinary scene. The menu boasts an impressive array of chaat and street food items, which got me excited to dive in.
We ordered a variety of dishes to share, including noodles, Italian cheese pizza with paneer, rose milkshake, cheese pavbhaji, and a veggie burger. While the rose milkshake was a highlight, quite great in fact, the other dishes were somewhat of a mixed bag. The noodles were mediocre, the Italian cheese pizza with paneer was average, and the cheese pavbhaji and veggie burger fell below average.
In terms of service, there were some areas for improvement. However, I believe Jaybhavani Vadapav has tremendous potential for growth and refinement. With some tweaks to their menu offerings and service, I foresee a bright future for this establishment.
If you're a fan of Indian street food, Jaybhavani Vadapav is worth keeping an eye on. They might just hit the spot with their next visit.
Recommended for: Fans of Indian street food and chaat, adventurous eaters looking to try new spots.
Will I return? Yes, to see if they refine their food and service.

Read moreVery costly, with extremely small portions for the price, and the food didn’t feel fresh. The
Ragda Chaat was served completely cold, almost like it came straight from the freezer. It didn’t seem fresh, maybe ready-made. The Jeera Rice and Rajma were better in taste, but again, the quantity was shockingly less for the price. The Vada Pav was disappointing — the pav felt like frozen bread and started hardening within a couple of minutes. The batata was just okay, but not exciting for a JAY BHAVANI brand.
They had a separate water dispenser, which is fine, but the dispenser label said “HAND WASH ONLY.” When I asked a staff member, he laughed and said it’s not for hand wash, and there’s a separate sink. Still, it wasn’t very reassuring — please bring your own water. The baby seats were another serious issue — both were broken, with cut seatbelts. Our kid kept slipping and almost fell multiple times. It’s a clear safety hazard for anyone using those chairs.
Even the Limca can we ordered tasted off — from the start, it was like sugar water, and by the end, the flavor turned strange. When I checked, the expiry was just a few weeks away, so it was likely already going bad.
Overall, I’d heard from a friend that Jay Bhavani is a big global chain, so we wanted to try it. But the experience was utterly disappointing. Big brands are usually careful about quality and hygiene — if this continues, it might really hurt their...
Read moreSo I went here on Friday (9/26) which was their grand opening day at the Miramar Road location and was likely the first customer in the store in the afternoon. I placed my order and gave the teller a $20 bill and he immediately says they have no cash on hand and instead points me to a payment terminal on the counter. Ok, then I swiped my debit card into the terminal to pay for my order and the teller tells me how much tip I'd like to give! For one, I never tip on a takeout order and secondly, their termianl only has options to give a 25%, 22.5% or a 20% tip!! This is really a bullshit business philosophy of theirs and being their first customer, I have now become their last ever customer. How can a new business not have any cash on hand?? Using 'tipping' pressure on a customer is just a horrible business practice! The mango lassi I ordered was horrible too in that it was very pale in color and consisted mostly of white yogurt (see pic). All other indian restuarants in San Diego have bright orange colored mango lassis'. So obvious they're trying to save money on how much mangoes they use in the mango lassi!! Thats' not all, my Aloo Mutter Grill sandwich was exteremly hot in terms of green chillies added to the sandwich and to me was not really edible nor enjoyable! To make matters worse, they made me move my car from the handicap spot while I was there to pick-up my order so that they could put up a tent in front...
