Years ago, I fell in love with French soap after a visit to the South of France. My favorite has always been lemon verbena with verbena flower, for both the wonderful scent as well as the exfoliation properties. I was saddened when the soap company I was using discontinued the verbena flower option. That is when a friend told me about La Jolla Soap Company and what a find this was!
I contacted the owner, Tonya Carlos, who worked with me to create a custom blend. The end result was magical! Lemon verbena, ground walnut shell, organic coconut oil, and a host of other natural ingredients. I ordered a loaf, which came out to be 9 soaps, all shaped in a beautiful design and topped with eco-friendly gold dust. When I received the soap, I was delighted to find a gorgeous presentation, complete with fancy paper and a sprig of lavender. There were also personalized messages, which made me feel extra special. The soap smells divine, and the ground walnut shell added the perfect exfoliation. I love it!
It is clear Tonya really cares about her products and her customers. Not only are her soaps fantastic, Tonya cares for our earth, only using natural and sustainable ingredients. When I walk into my shower now, the wonderful verbena scent immediately makes me happy and reminds me of my time in France. Contact Tonya today so she can create your own custom blend or to purchase from her array...
Read moreHidden among the high, curving narrow streethills of La Jolla, and overlooking a breathtaking view of the Pacific, is this small and faintly Parisian soapcrafthaus with its own gleaming apothecary where more soaps are daily born. The owner, a petite figure with bright blue eyes and tousled dark blonde hair, guides you through her carefully cut, immaculately boxed wares and lets you sample and breathe them before buying.
Can we just say I was blown away? The La Jolla Soap Company was suggested to me by AI when I needed some fresh new soap bars for January, and I'm glad I listened. I was hoping to discover something sudsy, clean and new with a hint of lavender, and the supercool owner helped me find such a soap within moments. I also snagged a great soft indulgent towel to add to all my bath-time goodies at home. The greatest gift is the price. These soaps cost half what health food store competitors demand and, as I found out once home, lather twice as well. The fragrance is durable too, and rests under your softened skin for hours.
Be a little careful parking as LJ Blvd is cramped by construction (January 2025) and was narrow to begin with. Just another one of La Jolla's little gems, and another...
Read moreA beautifully harmonious local treasure trove of exquisite soaps and cremes made on site — made clearly with love and inspiration. I live in the neighborhood and love just coming in here and to get immersed into the magical aromas concocted by Tonya. Definitely made me appreciate soap better and realize with surprise how these special soaps add aroma and pleasure to daily life. I finally discovered the joy of scrub soap! The other day I was surprised to discover chocolate soap that Tonya made on request from another customer. We now use Tonya’s soaps exclusively and buy them as gifts for appreciative friends and extended family. The store is bright and magical also containing some choice unique creations by local artists and artisans. Thank you, Tonya for this gem of a store at Windansea. I had never realized that a soap store is what our neighborhood (possibly any neighborhood) needed…until you...
