It was fairly low tide...meaning that the tidepools were not covered with water, but there are only teeny creatures--a few fish, a few crabs, and a billion tiny snails. It's easy to get to from Santa Cruz Street--you just walk down some stairs. It's too hard for little kids to get down to the two coves there, though, so that was lame.
On a another good note, though, these tidepools are FREE. They are not as fancy as the ones in Point Loma, but they also do not cost twenty bucks to see and the parking here...

(2 hours max rental time, also cash only) We drove along the designated path on the map they went over with us. Amazing scenic routes. This was towards the top of the route. You are able to see many different views. You're able to see the famous Casino, as well as see the beautiful golf course, parasailing, zip liners. Not really accessible when the tide is high but 80% of the time you can walk across at ease. Not exactly wheelchair accessible but on a scale of 1-10 on difficulty I would give it a 2 just because there is a couple places where you gotta step up or down some 2ft rocks which may conclude...
