I really liked the Ocean Beach Library, eventhough it was the first time that I have been there in decades. I was an O.B local from about 1969 through 1978, during the time when our world was "rockin' and rollin'!. I remember the war in Vietnam and it's terrible cost to our veterans-it was the last war during which the military draft was implemented and mandatory, unless one had a 2S deferment or claimed that they were a "conscientious objector," the latter which didn't go over very well with most Americans. I still remember Jane Fonda and her antics but, also other well known movie stars, sports celebrities and other renowned people who got away with murder ; those were the days of Charles Manson and O.J Simpson, as well as others that I not need not name. I liked Timothy Leary and the "reporter" who wrote "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The 2S deferment or "school deferment" was a special exemption that applied to college students, who were actively attending college classes. I received this deferment because I was in my second semester at SDSU and it was granted to all students attending college : Near the end of the war, the student deferments were abolished in favour of a lottery however, President Nixon fulfilled his pledge to end the war if he was elected and it ended in 1976...I believe? The Ocean Beach Library is still simply awesome, as I hadn't been there in over a decade. I needed to get some copies made and since my friend and I were headed over to cruise the O.B Pier, we decided to stop at the O.B Library to get some things that I needed to be done : The gentleman who helped us was totally cool and he helped me get copies of all the important cards that I needed copies of, as well as a new picturesque library card. There was plenty of parking within the surrounding area, as well as in the back of the library. Their book selection looked awesome and the interior of this librarly looked really cool. It wasn't very crowded and was both mellow and quiet, with handmade decorations made by school children, which is exactly what I'd expect in O.B. It's always been a tight community that takes great pride in itself, as well as those who stop...
Read moreWorst library ever. They don't have enough space for charging electronic devices and the only way you are able to is by sitting next to some people who seem as if they are homeless. I decided to charge my devices by a bookshelf and one of the employees told me in a rude manner to move. I started explaining to her why I was there and as soon as I started talking she ratted me off with the security officer so he could tell me to move to the tables ASAP. This library needs to expand a bit or family friendly customers will not be so interested in...
Read moreI visited the San Diego, Ocean Beach Branch Library in November 2019, primarily to visit the library for the sake of visiting a library, but also to print a boarding pass for a flight back to DTW. Nice and quaint library. Only thing that was kind of annoying was a surly intoxicated patron that was sitting next to me at the computers but, hey, that's life and it happens. I'd...
