Ocean Beach Cottages — Hotel in San Diego

We arrived around 2pm and I reached out to confirm what parking space was assigned to us. (It also says you get one off street parking but if you are in unit 3 or 4 you actually only get it on a first come first basis). 3pm comes and we had not heard back and went to check in only to discover the lock code provided did not work. We then called and emailed for the next 30 minutes without receiving a response. Luckily for us, there was a cleaning crew there who also started to reach out to try and help us. We we’re finally able to get in, I never received a call even though I am who booked it however my husband did get a call at 3:30 letting us know they had reset the codes.

It was really warm in the unit and we thought it may have needed time to cool down.. next morning we received a text an AC repairman would be out.. I confirm it was hot in the unit and had not been cooler than 78. It seems they already knew there was an issue but did not feel the need to let us know prior .. AC guy came and left and no update. I reached out to ask and was told he needed to find the part.. I let them know it was hot and they said they would bring by fans.

With two fans, the doors open (which allowed a bunch of flys in) it was still 80 degrees which made the stay uncomfortable. We were there from Tues-Sat and there was never a check in or apology for the inconvenience. I sent a text upon check out to let them know we were not happy and that they should get it fixed before the next guest. No reply.

Seems to be the motto. We paid $1400 to stay here and should have been comfortable and allowed entry on time.. per their policy if we we would have checked in early we would have been charged up to a full day BUT it was okay to check us in late and not have working AC.

Our stay at Ocean Beach Cottages started out a little rocky. We had to call, text, and email multiple times over several hours on the day of our arrival trying to get check-in information and we only finally got ahold of someone when we were onsite and when I had someone else call from a different number (I'm the one who booked it, so not sure why I was being ghosted). And, there were some issues: ants in the living room, lack of window covering in the third floor bedroom, broken dishwasher rack, uncomfortable living room furniture, and a couple of other minor complaints. But the place was clean, the beds were very comfortable, there were beach chairs, umbrellas, and toys available, there was A/C and, most importantly, the location was phenomenal!! Despite some of the minor issues, we'd definitely stay here again and would recommend...

We initially tried to book this thru VRBO but the owner reached out and recommended booking through the website to save us some $ on booking 2 of the 4 units. She was nice, professional and replied quickly to the booking. Once COVID hit we communicated and discussed a refund OR rescheduling for another date since the beaches and local attractions were all closed. She has since ghosted us completely.
