Ā Ā Ā Read moreI stopped by to check out the new gym. Unfortunately, Iām not a fan of the flooring - it's one of the most important aspects for anyone training. The gym uses wooden hardwood floors near the boxing bags, similar to what BXNG had, which isnāt ideal for MMA or boxing. Name one Muay thai/MMA gym using wooden flooring.
Also, the boxing ring seems to be made of a polyester-type fabric, not the traditional Muay Thai or MMA mats you'd expect. It looks like they carried over the same design choices from BXNG, which I was hoping they wouldnāt.
The BBJ mats are legit though..
Given that a lot of the management seems to have come from BXNG, same type of decisionsābut I really hope they reconsider the flooring if they want to attract serious fighters.
Response to Owner:
I appreciate the clarification on your gymās broader focus and your invitation to visit.
While I understand Odyssey isn't positioned strictly as an MMA or Muay Thai gym, itās worth noting that many athletes cross-train or come from those disciplinesāand for them, certain design elements like flooring matter a lot. Hardwood floors near the bags just arenāt optimal for footwork-heavy sports. Even casual enthusiasts can feel the difference between functional and aesthetic design choices when it comes to training surfaces.
if Odyssey hopes to appeal to a broader combat sports crowd (even recreational), thereās value in considering flooring that aligns with that standard. Many people training for fitness still expect an environment informed by real-world fight sports practice.
All said, I do respect it to certain degree. I just hope some of this feedback is helpful, especially if youāre looking to attract a wider combat sports community beyond just boxing or fitness-focused...

Odyssey has been such an amazing place to me. Since the first day I started coming here, I have felt an enormous amount of support and friendship from everyone here. The professors and coaches are great! I started my journey with boxing and Muay Thai here, two things I never thought I would ever get into. The coaches have been super great in encouraging, teaching and having patience with me, even though Iām not great at striking and I feel like I have two left feet. The instructors and coaches for jiu Jitsu also have such a variety of high level jiu Jitsu skills. I have found that, I am able to learn so much from each of them, not only learning different kinds of games (guards) to use but also finding the ones that work the most for me the most. Not only being able to know various kinds of moves but being able to train and hone in on the ones that speak to me the most. Not everything is one size fits all in jiu Jitsu and with the help of the instructors and coaches, Iāve been able to progress in my game and figure out what I like and donāt like, what works for me or what doesnāt, while still learning and progressing in the vast and wide sport of jiu Jitsu. Everyone on the team here has in someway or another helped me, pushed me to be better both on and off the mats. Iāve never before been surrounded by such a strong force of supporting, encouraging and loving team of men, women and children as the ones here at Odyssey. Everyone here is always welcoming and eager to help you start and or continue your journey in the martial arts. Along with such and awesome teaching program and team, they have a beautiful place with a variety of options for training. I have truly found my home away...
