I love this Firehouse Subs!
I ate here almost every day for lunch for almost two years- of course in part because it was conveniently located near my company's office, but also because the food was great, and the service was fantastic. Over time I got to know most of the employees there, and of course Sharon, who runs the place. As a regular I was greeted by name everytime I came through the door, and they usually knew what my order was (though I changed up my favorites often enough to keep them guessing).
On March 16th my team packed up our office and transitioned to working from home- I made sure to stop in and say bye to the friendly faces at Firehouse because they had become as much a part of my workday as many of my coworkers. I got one last delicious sandwich from them, not sure when (if ever) I'd be back. I wasn't sure if they'd be back.
Well today (August 27) I actually had to go back to the office for something, so of course I walked over to Firehouse to see if they were still open, and they were! As soon as I walked through the door Sharon saw me- and honestly I wasn't sure if she'd remember me at this point (or even recognize me, given quarantine beard, hair, and mask) but of course she did, and welcomed me in by name again even though it's been more than 5 months since I was last there. It was great to catch up, I'm gratified to see they've managed to stay open the whole time, and of course the sandwich was excellent as usual.
They've got a good set up to manage COVID risks- I felt comfortable and confident ordering there. They've got lots of great sandwiches to try, and lots of great hot sauces to pair with them. (My one criticism is that the heat numbers on their bottles [set by corporate, I believe] are complete BS and do not reflect the actual heat levels. Some 9's are mild and some 3's are quite hot- just make an effort to try a small taste of one before you commit to pouring it all over your sandwich) Don't be afraid to grab a bottle from the rack and ask the employee on sandwich prep to add it into your sandwich during the prep. I do specifically recommend the vegetarian sandwich with mushrooms- I'm neither a vegetarian nor a huge fan of mushrooms, but I love this sandwich. Add some Gator hot sauce and you have perfection.
Bottom line is that this place gets the full five stars, and it makes me sad that I get to eat here so rarely now that I work from home. Help me keep them in business until...
Read moreFirehouse subs are always tasty!!! I use to go to the Point Loma location, until it closed. I still manage to drive out there before remembering it's a new shop now. lol I tried to go to the location in Chula Vista, but their prices are higher!?! These subs aren't cheap, but they're reasonable.
My only complaint is there was a woman working...she was kind enough!...but she contested/argued things when something went wrong. Instead of just fixing things, it just sounded like blame passing. Example: I heard a man before me tell her that his order was suppose to be to-go. No big deal, right? All that needed to be said was a quick, "oops, sorry! Let me bag it right up", but instead she said she had heard "for here" and mumbled something else about what the man might have said when he placed his order. Whether she might have been correct or not doesn't matter. The end result was the guest did get his order to-go, but left kinda miffed. As for me: I ordered a Hook&Ladder sandwich with a few modifications (no onion/mustard, add pickles). All of that was correct on the sandwich I got, except they forgot the ham! lol No big deal. I just went back and told them. Except that same woman then tried to say I must have gotten the wrong sandwich. ?? Someone else ordered the same mods and same bun (wheat), same size, but specifically only ordered turkey? Now, what are the odds? Haha A mistake is no big deal. Especially because the lovely young girl at the counter was so sweet and apologetic, and the gentleman who originally handed me the sandwich was super friendly, and the sub was still delicious ham or not! There's no reason to make weird excuses! But that won't stop me from coming back for more delicous subs, especially while they're having a...

From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm and friendly welcome, setting the tone for what would be a delightful meal. The service was impeccable, with the staff going above and beyond to ensure that every customer was well taken care of. They were not only efficient but also genuinely enthusiastic about creating a positive dining experience.
Now, let's talk about the food. The subs I ordered were nothing short of amazing. The quality of the ingredients shone through in every bite, and the flavors were perfectly balanced. Whether it was the tender meats, the fresh vegetables, or the unique signature sauces, everything was on point. What truly stood out to me was the attention to detail. The sandwiches were prepared with care and precision, making each one a work of culinary art. The dedication to quality is evident in every aspect of their menu. I also want to mention that the atmosphere during this particular shift was inviting and comfortable. It's clear that the staff takes pride in maintaining a clean and well-organized establishment.
