I used to frequent this store. It's a decent place. But I've reached my limit with a select few of the staff.
I spent 2 hours there the last time I went (needed to kill some time). When I was done looking, I tried on some clothes in the mirror near the front. I couldn't help but notice the security guard kept going between me and another black customer in the store. His heels were on fire from how much he was pacing back and forth between us. The other customer was looking at comic books. It was annoying and sad, and it made me miss the previous guard who didn't profile people that obviously.
I picked the items I wanted to buy and put them in my basket. Headed back to the clothing area to put everything else away. Mind you, I'd been there 2 hours and looked through almost all the clothes already. BUT one of the staff members brought out a new rack of clothes. Excited, I looked at five pieces of clothing, and she informed me that the clothes weren't ready yet and I couldn't look (has NEVER happened before). That I needed to wait for her to put them all on the main floor. This made no sense. I KNOW having customers look at the racks while you're working must be annoying. But would she rather I follow her to every new section she goes to to view the three new items she's put out? Or should I wait until everything is put away, and then search through ALL of the clothes AGAIN?
I put all the items in my basket away and went to Goodwill. I had a great time there. Found better items at lower prices. Nothing was locked up. Plus I was able to look through the new racks they rolled out, and didn't have to endure the social sting of being followed around by a security guard.
Prob won't be back for a bit....
Read moreI love to donate to this place as they do good work, but some of the workers at the side are kind of rude.
Today they took a man's donation who came in after me. He drove up outside in a BMW and placed a stack of clothes on the loading dock. I'd been there, took some things out to take a photo and they decided to help him first though I was just as ready to go as he was.
I'm an older woman, and wheel my things over on a dolly. I don't drive a car in an effort to lower my carbon footprint and I wonder if the reason they decided to serve someone who arrived after I did before me is twofold, it was a man, though slightly older, and he was driving a BMW.
I was a treated poorly a few minutes later by a visa photographer who'd just served a pretty young woman with the upmost of charm, then barked orders at me, a 64 year old woman. I will never set foot inside the visa photo place as there are plenty to choose from. But I will go to community thrift as I need to pass on of a fair amount of nice quality things, so will need to return to the dock.
Hope they read their reviews and try to be a little more gracious and judicious in how they serve those who are kindly giving them nice items that actually pay their salaries.
There are other choices for these items, too, just not as many, and some are dubious, while Community thrift is a...
Read moreI love this place. They have amazing furniture, books, records, clothes and shoes. But I wish it would remember it’s also here to serve the neighborhood. A man walked in looking for jeans for his new job. The cheapest pair he could find That fit was 10 dollars, he only had 7, he asked them for a deal and explained the situtiton and they refused to budge. Naturally, people bought them for him. Despite the mission being expensive, there are still lots of low income families that need affordable cookware, clothes, shoes, etc. The area called Valencia Gardens (a few blocks and the house projects) is the lowest income area in the city. It’s just two blocks from this store. I wish they had slightly better prices, or a discount for people who lived in neighborhood and who need a discount on things like clothes, and cookware, etc. Yes, the money goes to charity, but they get more donations then they can handle, and maybe a 40% deal on clothes for those who live in the area AND who depend on this, the last thrift store in the area, for clothes and things they need. Have it need to show a piece of mail and an ID or something and then honesty based around income. They’ll still make plenty from tourists and others. Just...
