The swings, you know I came for the swings. The slides are anti-static here! That was a relief. The ones down by City Hall are not. Omg take your shoes off your hair will stand on end! All the kids giggle as they zap each other, "ahhh!" Hate it! It was fun chasing Hunter though, Cassie's son.
I made friends today with 3 little boys! I don't even know his name the little one who spoke no English just Spanish. He waved ๐๐๐ bye constantly didn't want to leave made a huge production lol when he left so I'd remember heem aw! His Papi came and demanded he come home. I said, oh no your papi is here. You better go! Listen to your teti and mami!
Hasta luego little guy aw. So cute! Then Ali is tireless. When dads visit drop food off for lunch and then leave it's so heartbreaking. Pobresitos! Weeping for teti awww. Has to be heartwrenching. That oxytocin, does it work on men too? When they hear those cries are their heaty strings tugged too? Are they relieved to walk away and let mom take care of all the emotions?
It must hit different as duty. Live, die, support, and educate them, so they too can have an even better life. I like this park better than the others! Turk and Hyde don't have swings and is the center of worse activity after dark. I am there often. I just wIsh I had a dog to play in the ๐ park!
I will try Boedekker later. We have The Tenderloin People's Congress Meetings there at the clubhouse and I KEEP missing them. I have been saving that one for a special occasion bc it's BIGGER. It's also right by the ๐ฎโโ๏ธ๐๐๐ฎโโ๏ธ shop and around the corner from the Power Exchange which was The Pink Poodle strip club. lol
That always made it the perfect place to commit a crime. Wherever the police station is from every lil small town in Anywhere, USA, to 'burban sprawl, and into the 'urbs. they are everywhere else doin [or not doin] their jobs, so there is no one watchin' the cop shop.
All the cars are empty bc rhey should be WORKING inside, walking the beat, or driving around on their dispatched rounds not hanging around loafing about the station. My neighbor he works here at this playground, so I feel safe. This one woman working there, she went deep with it. Not only did she own the blue ๐ vests and the color. She supplemented by adding lt blue eyeliner. Her entire dress was dark blue with gold accented embroidery. She owned that outfit from top to bottom.
I feel safe and I thanked them for keeping the kids safe bc what are we gonna do with them on the roof? Is a helicopter gonna air lift them out? Is there a water slide like a fun house gonna drop the stairs. Make em water slides once the sprinklers hit em to get everyone out quick?
No, we need playgrounds on the ground. They agreed and when I thanked them again, they said thatz "we do our best," and that's all you can ask of anyone. It shows, so when I see the light blue/teal or purple vests, I know they're doin the God's work!...
ย ย ย Read moreUnfortunately this park was renovated just in time for the pandemic to force it to push back the reopening...but as soon as the Tenderloin can begin using it's parks again, this will be a beautiful addition to the growing number of familyfriendly spaces in the TL.
My father brought my sister and I here every Sundya in the late 90's/early 2000's, since it was within walking distance of his apartment at Bush & Leavenworth (fun fact: the apartment was a large 10th floor studio w/ a full bath & kitchen PLUS a Murphy Bed for a measly $975/month...). Those cold and sunny afternoons playing with the other kids on the myriad play structures are still some of the best memories I have of my childhood in The City. It has been quite nice to see the current City Council continue to renovate the aging Rec and Parks system all over town, even through the pandemic.
Anyway, this park was and still is 10/10. The corner that it sits on is unfortunately major part of the open air drug market in the TL, but with a little bit of work and some heavy policing, I believe we can restore it to it's former glory and allow today's children to enjoy it as much as my...
ย ย ย Read moreThis is a great, mostly Latino children's playground for the Tenderloin community. There is a lot of new equipment to climb on, it is well-maintained and monitored by on-site staff. The city should change the name from park to playground.
Activities for adults are limited, but on certain days there is yoga, COVID testing, nutrition talks, and other things. See the weekly schedule sign at the entry. Open only during daylight hours and special events.
All the monitors are women, but beware of the large Latino man who does security outside the park. He is 6ft 2in or more, 250lbs+, and dressed like he is with Urban Alchemy, but had no group ID. He hides behind sunglasses and a facemask. He has tattoos on his neck. He bullies people by ordering them away from the playground and off the sidewalk. He claims to have a guard card and threatens people by saying that he carries a gun. This is excessive and ridiculous when observers are just watching the kids play. There is no Probable Cause for his behavior.
No sure if there were restrooms. This is not a park for dogs; small area with 2 outdoor tables for a picnic, but no lawn. Didn't see...
