I stayed in the motel during September 2018, while I was visiting San Francisco.||||The pros:||||- The motel offers free parking space for its visitors, which is a big bonus if you travel by car.||||- The motel’s location is quite central, and close to shops & restaurants. It’s about 10 minutes by foot from Union Square, 30 minutes’ walk from Lombard street & 40 minutes’ walk from Pier 39. If you want to stay in the downtown area, you should consider it.||||- The price I paid for my stay in this motel was relatively reasonable for a central place in San-Francisco, which is among the most expensive cities in the world.||||- I was given an early check-in by the staff, just because I arrived early and asked if it's possible. Keep in mind this is not something I can guarantee that will happen each & every time.||||- The motel offers relatively large rooms with the basic amenities that you need to feel comfortable and convenient - cable TV, mini-fridge, air conditioning and a private bath & toilet. The private bath was important for me (and mostly for my entourage), when choosing a motel. Other places in this price range offered shared bath/toilet, thus I preferred to avoid it. The beds were relatively comfortable,||||- Check-in & check-out went smoothly.||||- The room was cleaned daily, new soaps & towels were refilled daily, I was given extra towels when asked (though we were 3 people and they gave us only for 2 all the time, so this is something they should have realized on their own).||||||The cons:||||- Because San Francisco is very expensive, the price I paid for the stay in the motel wasn’t cheap in the first place. Though it was the best “value-for-money” deal I managed to find for a stay in this area for the dates I visited San Francisco, I suggest that if you spend so much money, then maybe it’s a good idea to consider paying a bit more and stay in a nicer facility. For me it was enough and met my expectations, but it appears my entourage were disappointed, thus I must emphasize that. Once again, San Francisco is very expensive, so I was focused on value-for-money accommodation solution.||||- The motel’s location relatively OK compared to the near streets when it comes to homeless people, but this is something you won’t be able to ignore if you’re in downtown San Francisco. This is a very sad issue, and I was amazed how many homeless people live in San Francisco, but there was a time I came back home via 2-3 streets parallel to where the motel is, and I encountered swarms of homeless people. In the entrance of the motel there were always homeless people and from the balcony I could see them as well. On the pavement next to the motel I encountered more than once used drug needles. Fortunately, you cannot access the motel’s building without the keycard, so no worries about that.||||- Some nights were quiet, while some nights noisy. The noise originated from the building’s bad acoustic (neighboring rooms, corridor) and from the outside.||||- The balcony in the first floor is intrusive to the rooms next to it, so I left the curtains close the whole time.||||- The staff was OK, but they are not tourism-oriented service givers. I don’t feel they did the extra effort to make me feel good, but they also weren’t as bad as described in the reviews prior to my visit. They didn’t give me a face or mislead me like I read in the reviews before me, though when asked for a recommendation for a good breakfast, we were given the conventional info, and not something that I couldn’t come up with on my own.||||- Though the motel offers several Wi-Fi networks, all of them were very slow, and I really suffered from this issue.||||- I didn’t like that my door had a shared room with the neighboring room.||||||I hope this review will help you device if you want to stay at this place if you travel to San Francisco.||||Please note I also created a video review about this place (on my own initiative, not sponsored!), that is published on my YouTube channel "OVR Travel", under the title "Motel 6 Downtown San Francisco Review". The video will support everything that is mentioned above.||||Best...
Read moreWe had to stay here as the week we were visiting San Francisco, there was a huge Oracle conference and all hotel rooms were exorbitantly expensive—many doubled or tripled their rates for the week of Sept 15-20th, 2019. The Motel 6 was more expensive than usual but thankfully, not over $500 a night as many other hotels were.||||The rooms here are basic but clean, well-maintained and spacious. The bathroom is small, but has a bathtub and toilet, though the sink is outside the bathroom. This can be advantageous when you are sharing the room as two people can get ready without one hogging the bathroom. ||||The air conditioner is a BIG problem in all the rooms—it's mounted at waist level and blows air directly at one bed, so whoever is lying there will get the full force of the air blasts. And there is no adjustable louvre or grill, so the air will shoot straight out. ||||Another big issue was that the electrical plugs in the room were all in bad condition—one plate was loose and coming out of the wall, and others were so old that they were very loose and plugs would literally just fall off after being inserted. ||||The rooms don't come with irons or hairdryer, but these can be borrowed from the reception downstairs. However, the hairdryer we got was very old, weak and clogged with lint. ||||They do not store luggage, so if you have some time after checking out and do not want to lug your bags with you, you will need to bring it to a nearby luggage storage facility and pay for storage.||||Staff are polite and helpful. Maid service is spotty as on some days, they did not clean the floors and did not leave bath mats. ||||The location is a big drawback because it's in an area with a lot of homeless people and panhandlers. This is a big problem for San Francisco overall but there's a big concentration of homeless in this area, which borders the Tenderloin. But the hotel does a good job of keeping the premises well-lit, safe and secure. You need a key card to even enter the elevator and the area...
Read moreWhen booking this hotel it’s website brags about how pet friendly they are but in reality when you check-in they inform you that pets have to be with you at all times and cannot be left in the hotel room even in a crate. Meanwhile the policy that is sent to you after booking states that pets are allowed in the room alone if they are properly crated. My husband and I were in San Francisco with our two dogs that are under 10 pounds just for one night to celebrate New Year’s Eve. The dogs were only going to be unattended for approximately two hours in their crate. At check in the manager informed us that the information sent to us was incorrect and that no pets can be left unattended in the room but she was going to make an exception and allow us to leave our dogs in their crate in our room. She also informed us that if our dogs make the slightest noise they will be calling the pound so they can take our dogs!! I was so shocked and disgusted about this and worn all pet owners that this hotel is not pet friendly at all. Otherwise the room was clean but the walls are paper thin and all of the guests are playing extremely loud music and we were able to hear stomping and yelling and a bunch of other shenanigans. This was actually very surprising since according to the manager the guests value their peace and quiet which come to find out was a total lie. Security was also an issue since we had other guests try to enter our room at 2:30 in the morning please be cautious while staying here or just pick a...
