My wife and I went to see the Kay Sekimachi exhibit yesterday, Friday August 29th. The advertised hours were: open 1-5 pm. We paid our admission and entered at 2:30. We enjoyed the first room very much, but at 3pm a staff member came in and told us that we were the only visitors at the museum, we had to leave and if we wanted to, we could return at 4pm to be re-admitted. The reason was that the staff wanted to "take a one hour break". This did not fit into our plans. We were not warned about this when we paid our admission, nor were we offered any refund. We had to zip through the second room of the exhibit, didn't see the second exhibit, nor get to watch the video about Sekimachi and her husband. BE AWARE: you might get...

This place is very welcoming. The staff are super friendly and genuinely happy people, and they were honestly the highlight of visiting this museum. The reason for my 3-star review is that there were no quilts on display, which was the sole reason why I went. I understand that exhibits rotate, but I feel there should be a year-round staple of quilts on display in at least a small part of the museum since "quilts" appears before "textiles" in the title of this establishment. I always support the arts, so I don't regret going. I was told there will be quilts coming in September, but I live in OC. There was ample street parking when I went, and you don't need more than an hour inside (it's a...

I am a quilter and admire quilts and eagerly went to the Kaffe Fassett show, but was quite disappointed with my visit. The museum is quite small, so even if the show is interesting, there's not a lot to see. Also the place is hard to find from on-line directions, and we spent almost as long trying to get there once we were in SanJose as we spent at the exhibit. The final nail was that we had planned to go for "First Friday Free" but were told (rather rudely) that the first Friday in July was not included as a free Friday, and they made us pay the $6.50 Senior fee. On the whole I would recommend that you skip this and go to a local guild's...

Small museum featuring thematic exhibits, all quilts during our visit. The Quilt National '21 works were featured, along with a few other pieces. Some were visually stunning, others with gorgeous handmade textiles or even paper, still others displayed incredible quilting craftsmanship. Most artists specified the meaning or message of their work, which deepened out appreciation. We took our time, then visited the gift shop (quilts, jewelry, scarves), bought stuff, in about 1.5 hrs. Worthy of a visit. We used our local library's 'Discover & Go" program and visited for free, but funded our visit with purchases.

Whenever I am in CA I made a trip down to San Jose specifically to see the quilt museum. I don't quilt, but I do collect fabric art and own quilts from the 1880s to now. Each show is worthwhile. I admire the creativity of the various artists and what they make. Not all are quilts. They normally display some of the historic quilts along with the contemporary fabric art. It's a small museum, so go down the block to the other galleries. Then see the San Jose Art museum and enjoy the restaurants in the area too. Christmas in downtown SJ is an annual event.
