Overall, The Studio Climbing is an excellent facility with a positive environment. The front desk rep was exceptionally friendly and easily convinced my friend and me to sign up upon our first visit. With that said, the intro course you have with your instructor can really make or break the experience. As someone with high anxiety and a minor fear of heights, it is imperative to work with a coach who is patient and amicable. It is a bit intimidating to work with a coach with a condescending tone and unfriendly demeanour— in such scenarios, it is easy to 'tilt' and lose focus on the learning process.

As a professional educator, I understand how crucial it is to work with an instructor who you feel comfortable with. In sum, would I recommend the gym? Most definitely. Nevertheless, the quality of your experience will be contingent on who teaches you. Had I worked with the guy who signed me up, I most likely would have continued...

Firstly is like to say that I'm more of a bouldering kind of person so my review is colored my that. Secondly I will say that the conversion of an old movie theater to a climbing gym is pretty cool.

The Studio is a decent sized coming gym near San Jose State University. It's part of the Touchstone Climbing company. It seems as if this is a top rope and lead climbing gym. A good amount of route with a map showing the ratings was up in a wall. I didn't do any of these since I was alone but they looked pretty cool. I've included a picture of one of the areas.

The boulder area is pretty limited with some good routes. The grading seemed about right out maybe a bit sand bagged. Lol. I had fun and was able to do a few of the easier problems and would like to come back to try more.

The gym is obviously well used at the fitness and...

We usually try to come twice a week and have generally enjoyed climbing. I've been a member for about a year since I moved to San Jose in November of 2021. I spend most of my time in the top rope area with my girlfriend. The yoga classes have also been a nice addition to our indoor climbing. Today however we learned that when my girlfriend froze our "partner" account in September of 2022... it only froze her payment and not mine, so I have been paying $75 additionally a month for 3 months without knowing. It's unfortunate that the customer service said they couldn't do anything and practically laughed at us when we brought it up. We are unfortunately going to be looking into Planet...

i had been dying to get into climbing but always found it a bit intimidating. the studio makes me feel welcome and provides a fantastic environment for beginners. the intro class taught me everything i needed to feel prepared to climb with partners. plenty of routes available to move up and challenge yourself. i am also a big fan of the events they hold!! a few ive attended include a really impressive crate stacking contest (mind blowing tbh) and lights out night for halloween, sooo much fun. they’ve got a really cool community and i’m excited to continue climbing at the studio!

This was my first time visiting this gym, and overall, I had a good time. My only issue was how people would sit down on the ground near the back bouldering wall, despite the fact that the space is very narrow and creating a hazard for anyone climbing a nearby route. This is not the gym's fault, it's more of a concern as I didn't want to accidentally land on someone whom decided to sit down right in the path of my descent. The routes were challenging, but a lot of fun. I just wish the bouldering space was bigger so people could spread out and not have to squeeze together.

love this place!! very nice community— staff and members are all very kind facilities are great. the locker rooms are clean. they have a sauna and also provide gender neutral bathrooms. theres routes and boulders. the boulders get changed around once a month. parking is definitely very hard to find. theres parking in front of the entrance but is usually full. theres various (paid) parking garages in downtown SJ but cost quite a bit (especially the one directly behind the studio). there are also street closures once in a while so thats also very annoying
