Swap Meet is a mixed bag. I sell every now and then and it is getting to be more regulars and dealers. There are fewer garage sale sellers so not as many really good deals and selection. Sometimes you find clothes for a quarter but good luck finding the bargains that used to be there. Also loaded with produce sellers and food trucks on nearly evert aisle. Selling as of sept 2018 is $25. To get a seller space you should be in line super early. Some are in line at 3 am but you can reserve a space so you dont have to be so early. To get a good spot be there by about 5 am. For an ok spot 6 am. Dont even bother after 7 am if you want to have a space for sure. They may sell out by then or you could miss buyers that are there en masse from about 7 to 10 am. After that many sellers start packing and are gone by about noon or 1 pm. For bargains buyers should be there by 6 am because dealers come early and buy up the cheap stuff. Some buy to put in shops and others buy to put in their space with a markup. If you are selling early they swar you grab stuff from your boxes try to get you to sell to cheap and some use the confusion to cheat you or outright steal. Dont let them swarm you. It is still the best swap meet from ventura to san jose as far as variety of items and quality of sellers. I have sold at nipomo santa barbara ventura and santa cruz and strolled santa maria and give this one more stars. This review lost one star for incosistency and staffing. The gate will open when they decide to open. Sometimes at 5 sometimes before and sometimes after. This week opened at 7 am so a lot of sellers lost money not being able to set up before buyers. The guy at the gate is good at dealing with people in the swap meet but painfully slow taking payment at the gate. The woman takes payment for 2 to 3 for every 1 he takes. I have counted. The line moves even faster when she works alone. Snack bar sells out of donuts but they are full service as they are at movies. Plenty of food trucks to get breakfast or lunch. Produce sellers are not all farmers. They sell stuff they buy wholesale just like a market does. Price varies widely. It is not like a farmers market. Expect to have quite an experience. You may not find what you are looking for but you will likely find something cool to buy. There is an atm in the snack bar and outlet to test stuff you want to buy. Bring cash with you preferably small bills so transactions are...
Read moreBriefly was in SLO, and a friend wanted to see a movie here. The experience for me (I learned my lesson) was that this place is a CASH ONLY business. They have an ATM in the food shack. The issue was that it went through 3 failed transactions on my bank card, and on the third time, it gave a communications error print out in the receipt. The ATM proceeded to restart. My friend was very adiment in seeing this movie. Mind you, this was 20 minutes prior to the movie starting. I needed to find an ATM to get cash for this movie. I looked up gas stations and went to the nearest gas station, which was a shell, which turned out the shack was closed and I couldn't get cash. I then saw a Ralph's. You would think that a grocery store would have an ATM, and then it didn't. I then saw a chevron and proceeded to use the atm machine, and then it gave me suspected fraud. This sucked. Now my card is locked till Monday... so we went back and talked to the attended (very pleasant girl), and she listened to our problems, starting with a cash only business and how it led to the locked card of mine. We ended up getting into the movie halfway through, which sucked and we couldn't get the radio to stay on because newer cars typically shut off after 5-10 minutes in auxiliary power mode. I went back in on the faith that they had an extra radio they could spare. Thankfully, they did. It had low low power, and I had an extra USB battery charging station in my car, so I was able to use it. I commend the professionalism and barrier removal processed the main attendant and 2 staff I saw in the shack. All 3 were very helpful and accommodating. As for the lack of debit/credit/mobile payments not being an option, they need to get these started. I'm sure this would help the business get more customers and not be dissuaded by the CASH ONLY payment system they...

Long version: My experience. Me and my girlfriend were coming from a great day of early Valintines day celebrations. After waiting in line for about a half hour we get to the window, where reads a sign 2 ft. By 6 in. "Cash only". I say I'm sorry I only have a debit card. The lady says (angry) "give me your phone, there's an ATM inside". I park. Walk inside, and the machine is broken. I tell the cashier at the counter. She roles her eyes and walks into the back without saying a word. I then inform the other lady working behind the counter and she says "she went to tell the guy who can work it". While I'm waiting I see the two broken pinball machines and take a quick walk to the bathroom. I took two steps into the bathroom and just said no way, and went back to the ATM. 5 minutes later the guy comes out, pushes the keypad buttons on the ATM and tells me "it's broken, you'll have to go tell the ticket booth". I walk out to the ticket booth and tell the lady what's up. She says "the exits closed, you'll have to wait for me to get through these cars and go out this way and find another ATM". I get back to my car and my girlfriend told me that yet another rude employee made her move my car because we were "in two spots". There is no center line to indicate where one spot ends and another begins. Finally the line is gone and I can leave, now that we're 10 minutes into the actual movie. We didn't go...
