Totally agree with Ashley. I was reading your review from 2 years ago and NOTHING much has changed! I have lived here since Oct of 2013 and unfortunately still do. We deal with it, well because rent is not bad considering other places are way more expensive. I literally copied and pasted the review, because I still experience the same issues! Our electricity bill is usually close to $200 or over during the summer. All they tell me is well its because I live upstairs and that's why its hotter. Our thermostat is in the 70's & higher when we have the AC turned all the way down. Its an old unit and I really want to have a professional look at it. Then again, I should not have to pay for someone else to tell me exactly whats wrong. I have lived in an upstairs apt before and never had this issue with anywhere else. I do have to say Maintenance guys are pretty cool! They're quick to try and fix things (usually same day) and are always super nice. The one thing I have not been able to have fixed is my lights on the balconies. Not sure what the reason for that is. No one ever told me why it could not be or has not been fixed. Ive been dealing with this issue for awhile now. One more thing to add.... a lot of break ins happen at this apt complex. Im sure it happens at many complexes, but its happened way too many times at ours. The lighting is really bad outside the complex. They have made the court look decent, so I give them props for that. The manager now is nice too. There is always a different person at the front desk though. What to expect: A/C that does not work during the summer; we had it looked at three different times this summer and it can't be overworked because the AC unit will freeze. Also, the A/C is inefficient so except a high electricity bill regardless if you have the AC on during the day or not. -Expensive water bills because it is split among the residents and is in awful condition. We have had our water turned off countless times because of leaks. -Bugs. Expect Bugs. I never see anyone spray for bugs but I pay for it every month as part of my rent. I clean almost everyday and put towels & tissues & glue in every crack to prevent bugs but they still come in. -Noise. It's noisy, but, be smart and get an apartment on the second floor. -Old everything. The kitchen appliances are extremely out of date and don't work properly half the time. The bathrooms are okay but the toilet will be old. Lots of cracks and holes in walls too. -Leaks in the ceilings. One time we had maintenance come knocking on our door at midnight on Wednesday because the room below us had water dripping down their walls. We have a mildew stain on our ceiling from when it rained, but some people had full on water coming through their roof during a rain storm. -Rot. Everything from the outside is rotting in some way or another. I do not let more than three people on my balcony because it scares me.
Now, honestly, its not that bad for what you pay for. They are dirt cheap therefore, except what you pay for. Would I recommend, NO, but if you're poor like me, then sure, but look...
Read moreI have lived here since July of 2013 and as of last month we received new management. I was content with the last management but I think they realized how crappy these apartments are and did not want to pay/deal with all the fixing it needs. Therefore, you have to understand that these are not "nice" apartments, the "showroom" apartment looks great with the furniture and paint but, don't except that when you move it. If you are considering moving in, ASK TO SEE THE APARTMENT FIRST before signing anything. We were lucky that our apartment was kept in decent condition by the previous renters but I have heard horror stories.

We have had our water turned off countless times because of leaks. The old management would sometimes give us discounts (that was cool) but the new management FAILED to tell us in a timely manner that our water would be turned off and I came home at 9:30pm from work to find that the water was still off and no one could help. The water was off from 3pm-11:30pm when it should have been off from 9am-5pm (normal working hours). This PISSED everyone off at the apartment and management was NO WHERE to be found. So much for new management... they suck. -Bugs. Expect Bugs. I never see anyone spray for bugs but I pay for it every month as part of my rent. Read moreLiving at Topaz Apartment has been a unique journey for my wife and me, starting from the moment we fell in love with its bright, welcoming living room and the cozy fireplace. The decision to move into a single bedroom seemed perfect at first, bolstered by the apartment manager's accommodating nature, especially when our request to replace the carpet flooring with brand new vinyl was met promptly and efficiently. However, the charm of our initial choice soon gave way to the reality of its limitations – the space felt too small, and the vintage charm couldn't muffle the noises from maintenance issues and a particularly loud neighbor who had a penchant for midnight music sessions.
Despite these challenges, our attachment to Topaz's layout and the community meant we weren't ready to give up on it. Upgrading to a 2 bed 2 bath apartment with vinyl flooring was a seamless process, reflecting the efficiency and helpfulness of the staff, from the leasing office team to the technicians. Their swift responses to repairs and other issues have been a standout aspect of our residency here.
Having experienced life in various apartments, we're no strangers to minor issues that can arise. Yet, at Topaz, the positives significantly overshadow these small nuisances. The sense of community, responsive management, and the benefits of our upgraded space have made our stay memorable. Moreover, the convenience of its location is unparalleled, with easy access to I-35 for city explorations, proximity to shopping destinations like Lowe's, BestBuy, and Ross, and the added bonus for Texas State students with a nearby shuttle stop.
In conclusion, despite its quirks, Topaz Apartment offers a blend of comfort, convenience, and community that's hard to find elsewhere. We would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a place that feels like home, supported by a team that goes above and beyond to ensure resident...
