This year was my second time attending the Marin County Fair in San Rafael. Just like last year, I bought my entrance ticket online ($18). I came to enjoy the fair with two friends and by the end of the night, we had a relaxing and fun time and looked forward to next year's fair.
I've been to three county fairs in the Bay Area: San Mateo, Alameda and Marin. Among all three, I prefer the Marin County Fair because parking isn't much of a hassle and a short walking distance to the fair entrance. There were various activities planned out for each day for kids and adults. There were different food vendors throughout the fairground, but be prepared to spend a lot. I ordered Mexican food for lunch - Noel's Bowl for $13 and watermelon juice $6. Was it worth it? Well when you haven't eaten in a few hours, it was, but I wouldn't buy it again per the prices. There was a small selection of classic rides such as the Ferris Wheel and Swings. There was even a farm display at the back with The Great American Pig Races every two hours, as well as farm animals that were either fenced or caged away from guests. There were also various clothing, souvenir and/or appliance vendors, which were nice to look at (or purchase).
Two things made Marin County Fair stand out to me: hydration stations for BPA-free water bottles and attendants to help you recognize how to throw away your trash between the compost, recycling and trash bins.
To add a cherry on top, there were fireworks displays every night at 9:30 PM (after the concert). It was one of the most spectacular displays and lasted for 15 minutes. If you choose to stay for the fireworks, then bring blankets and mats. Secure a spot on the lawn for your family and you before the...
Read moreTraumatic experience for people of color with disability and security team... Security needs to have better training to be kind. Not cruel. Unfortunately my little brother with disability is very tall and people get threatened by him easily... he is also a person of color and he is a physical aide for my disabled elderly mother. He also lives in fear of being targeted and barely leaves the house. We paid $60 for vip tickets to the Blue Oyster Cult concert and were sitting front row area for ADA.
After the concert we were all leaving the vip section but my mom wandered back in and she tends to get lost. My brother turned around to go back to get her and was nearly tackled by 3 security guards. He came back in a panic and begged to leave because he was afraid for his life. I asked why he didn't explain he was an aide for the woman behind them but he said they weren't listening/were aggressive and told him to leave. I tried to find the security people after but my little brother started running away so I couldn't. It was a terrible experience.
We will not be back again, and I will warn folks about this. On the anniversary of our fathers death too. Way too traumatic, abuse of force for a community event. They need sensitivity training. Do better!! It literally keeps us up at night....
The redeeming factor was the concert first aide was very helpful for my mother when she cut her arm dancing... Thank you to the kind...
Read moreI've been going to the fair since the 70's . As a child we would walk to the front gate and as we would get closer we used to smell a wonderful fragrance of carnations the cost was affordable for our family of six. And even though some people didn't like it there was a section for smokers. Although my son and l enjoyed attending this year. It just wasn't the what it used to be . It just seemed too militant way to much security no welcoming fragrance of flowers the was really unaffordable and felt an unwelcoming feel it sure is sad that it felt communist run . We did enjoy Blue Oster Cult was one of the highlights as well as seeing local peoples art, writings and ect. Star wars section was really good 👍. But alittle undecided if we will plan on attending next year and maybe save up a little more money and travel to a more accommodating fair where we can let lose and forget our everyday lives of such a angry America 🇺🇸. I hope everyone can put aside their differences this 4th of July and think about all our Veterans and family members that have sacrifice their lives for this country. Just remember United we stand divided we fall. And remember Martin Luther King said don't judge a person by the color of their skin but by their character. Marin...
