They have an overly restrictive and ridiculous club policy. Read up on the club policy and etiquette before signing up. The staff did not inform me about these rules before I got membership and if I knew about it I would not have wasted my time. They don’t allow any food and beverages (other than water), cell phones on silent, no phone conversations, no grunting, and modest clothing. The blonde girl that helped me said that mean “a shirt over a sports bra.” That was the cringiest and most loaded thing I’ve ever heard. This is a gym not a church so get a clue. And we all know that these rules and dress codes usually target and bias younger women. Last time I checked middle school was over. And that’s probably why there’s very few women and almost no young people and the club is full of older men. There is a reason this gym offers one of the cheapest rates (other than 24 hour fitness which is absolutely horrible, read the reviews) because they probably can’t compete with standard gyms like Golds Gym. In addition, the building is pretty old, the machines are crusty, it’s tiny and there’s barely room to breathe and move around, and it feels like I’m suffocating. I asked for my money back immediately and went to Golds Gym. They’re offering a much better deal of $700 for 20 months which is $35 a month which is cheaper than this gym at $40 a month. Golds gym is 3 floors, clean, new equipment, friendly staff, they even have towels and bath stuff and Josh at sales is great. And there’s no loaded “shirt over sports bra” policy. Absolutely ridiculous. Change your policy before you lose...
Read moreI'm a newer arrival to Santa Barbara and did research on local gyms before I settled on AC4. The YMCA was packed at the time I'd work out. and other gyms were too expensive. As I also train outdoors, I don't need an expensive gym for the days I end up working out inside. I like simple, clean, 'work out and go' kinda place and this is it. I have never had to wait for a machine, even the rowing machine there is only one of.
The facility is clean (the staff change towels to wipe down the machines with at 7 PM sharp), the staff are nice and the 24/7 access is a unique feature I have taken advantage of. Bad Friday night date? What's better solace than to hit the treadmill at 10 PM to prep the body for something better? Note: Bring your own lock - this place is minimalist so there is not a big locker room and you either change in bathroom or shower room. It works out OK, trust me. Oh and spring for the extra $5/month and use the water massage tables- they are the best treat after...
Read moreFantastic customer service, great at explaining things, answering questions... overall very informative. After signing up they give you a quick tour that shows you everything you need to know. Facilities are well laid out and are accessible to even beginners. Machines are great quality and overall everyone who works out here is very courteous and respectful of the workout equipment and fellow exercisers. Membership is well worth the small fee each month and 24 hour access is super convenient. They also allow you to put membership on hold for $5 a month with is great. There is an online portal where you can manage your membership including the aforementioned freezes, also very convenient. Gym members can always find parking too! (And the AC4 shirt is...
