Not what we remembered. We first visited this Jackalope about 13 years ago, and it was a wonderful store filled with locally sourced and authentic New Mexican, Native American, and Mexican household wares and goods. I was ecstatic when they opened the Albuquerque location, which was a great sister location. We moved away, the Albuquerque location shut down, and we just visited this location again. We were underwhelmed. There is a section of one building that has local, New Mexican wares and food, and we were pleased to find New Mexico Pinion coffee, which we bought. However, gone are most of the unique and authentic items. As others mention, most of the items sold are cheap, mass produced, and over-priced. My husband picked up what should have been a $10 knife that fell apart in his hand. The vendor said it was $90, and that because he painted it 'Native American blue', the price was justified. As a Native American, that left a bad taste...
Read moreThis place looks like a “tourist trap” from the road so we avoided it until we ran out of things to do. Well, we weren’t exactly wrong. The positives: tons of planters and outdoor decor. The negatives: the pricing is kind of hilarious. I know there are different vendors (which, by the way, makes it frustrating to pay because the owners frequently aren’t around) but the prices are absolutely hilarious. I saw a Huichol necklace identical to one I’d bought downtown earlier in the day for $90. I paid $25 for mine! There was an Asian vendor selling knockoffs of Coddies (look them up). Many of the “Native American” items were from the Middle East, Asia, or India. Prairie Dog Glass should be considered entirely separately. Their work is amazing, although the glass worker there didn’t greet or acknowledge us. Much more reasonably priced than the other vendors. TL;DR: go for the glass, don’t buy...
Read moreFun store in a new (to me) larger location with several buildings full of great Southwestern art and other interesting things, including clothing. A glass blowing class opportunity in the back at Prairie Dog Glass is offered too, usually without appointment. We wandered through the buildings and had a great time. Even if Southwestern art and furnishings are not your thing, there is a huge garden center and a big gardening container section. Friendly informative staff, with the artists usually on the premises if you have questions. When something is purchased, one pays the artist directly, if they are present. Check out the tables made from highly polished heartwood and tree root hearts. They are amazing. Jackalope is located on Cerrillos Rd , right near restaurants and other needs. Parking is in front and is adequate. Stop in and...
