✨READ ENTIRE REVIEW!!! VERY IMPORTANT!✨ Im an teen and I've been obsessed with meow wolf since fourth grade (so a pretty long time) when I found out I'd get a chance to visit it I was thrilled!!! house of eternal return has been one of my favorite exhibitions so I was insanely happy that I'd get to go there! the line wasn't too long to get in and we had preorder our tickets so it made it easier to get in faster. (I recommend getting the package that's called like the Super Great Deal package or something cause it comes with fun stuff and extra tokens) when we got in I made sure to listen to the charter announcement outside of the door and then we headed inside. I started crying a bit. I started legit crying cause it was so amazing. so here are three things too look out for when you go inside ALWAYS CHECK THE MAILBOX! I'm going to try and not spoil the entire story but the mailbox has some details in it that are important and a nimisesku sighting!!! WALK FULLY AROUND THE HOUSE BEFORE ENTERING PORTALS! To be honest, you don't have to do this if you don't want to but I recommend it. I did it and even though I knew the entire storyline and mystery it helped show clues and what to expect in the other areas. WHEN YOU GO THROUGH THE PORTALS SPEND MORE TIME IN THE FOG SPACE! meow wolf uses anchor systems, certain areas that connect the rooms, (the house, portals Bermuda, fancy town, etc) and the fog space is a anchor space that is usually ignored. I love the fog Space and all of the rooms that are a part of it and most people I saw just walked through them trying to get to the next place. So, I read the reviews that are 1 star for HoER so I'm going to address the criticism. -"MW is only art for people who like shrooms and happy meal toys glued to the walls!!!" yeah, that's a real review! so for the first part, I don't do drugs and I LOVE meow wolf! and I know that not many artists who worked on meow wolf did drugs. second of all, I think their talking about the Trash Temple (sadly replaced the teen room) and the Trash Temple is an awesome room! and yes, I believe there are some happy meal toys glued to the wall but that adds to the beauty of it! -"MW is always busy and smells weird" uh... I guess it's busy sometimes but if you focus on the art it's less noticeable that a ton of people are around you. Also, I don't rember it smelling weird to be honest. And that's only some of them! Some of my favorite rooms were the desert trailer (Lucius's spirit home), Wigglys plasma Plex! (oh my God I could talk about plotzo forever! he's my favorite character and I think their hinting at NYC MW to be plotzo and undermaller themed!!!!!!! I wish I were an undermaller omg I love them!!! also the claw machine is fun and I'd do anything to get the XL plotzo plush) and I also love anywhere in fancy town cause when in in fancy town and Wigglys I feel so connected to Matt king (rip! always in our hearts!) Anyways, the point I'm getting at is you should go here! I'm preparing to go back next year also follow my tips! they Really important!! (BUY MORE TEE-SHIRTS AT THE GIFT SHOP!!!!!!! ALSO BENJI GEARY...
Read moreOverall, the experience was absolutely fantastic. Would return for another visit in a heartbeat and will be forcing my Texas friends to visit the Grapevine location when it opens.
The experience is like walking through a trippy cartoon dream. I recommend taking your sweet time and soaking it all in. There are so many rooms (like 70?), two floors, and so much art to see and enjoy it’s difficult to describe. Very trippy. Dreamy. Surreal. Explore everything! Open every door! Well, almost. Look in every hole and around every corner! Touch and feel the art and the walls, within reason. There are performers there as well adding another facet to the experience. It is SO. COOL!
There were some cons, I thought. Not enough to bring down the 5 star rating though because I’m sure some days can be slower and some are more packed.
Parking situation might be a bit sketch. We lucked out and found a spot close to the building. Get there early or prepare to possibly search for a parking spot.
There was a ton of children and they aren’t always being watched by their guardians, as instructed by MW staff. It’s a kid friendly place so it’s expected. But the crowd and the kids almost burned me out near the end. I mean, the place is mega stimulating already, then add the commotion and fervor of the crowd, crying and yelling kids, etc. I’m sure there could be some strategic planning to avoid the large crowds and loads of kids.
The only other thing was the crowd in general. I wasn’t sure what the crowd situation would be, but it came to be more people than I expected or preferred. I highly recommend doing a little research, maybe calling ahead and finding out about slow days or slow hours. Over the years I am continuously reminded that attractions during spring break get overly crowded. This was no exception. I recommend a different strategy.
Also, it’s probably safe to skip the cafe. I didn’t visit the gift shop and I wish I did because I bet it had some cool items, but the cafe is pricey and not great from what I tried.
Overall, highly recommend this place for adults and young adults and families with children past...
Read moreThis is my second Meow Wolf experience after Vegas. While OmegaMart is still my favorite, House of Eternal Return was still a lot of fun! We got there around 5pm and left around 7pm so that we could get food before the concert. We only spent 2 hours exploring, but if we could've taken our time I think it would've been 4 hours--easy. The scavenger hunt had both my boyfriend and friend completely engrossed. Reading the clues/journals was a ton of fun for me even though I didn't partake in the hunt. Solving the mystery in my mind was satisfying enough. My boyfriend completed the scavenger hunt and my friend spent the next day re-evaluating all of the clues to see what she was missing. That should tell you that it was a good storyline.
Besides the mystery; the different themes, vibrant colors, monochromatic rooms, and various artistic styles really added to the experience. My only complaint is that there are not more interactive exhibits like OmegaMart. But, it was still really monumental to me to see where Meow Wolf began. I see that a lot of people are commenting about it being crowded but we didn't have that problem, and it was Saturday. It was easy to skip an exhibit that was small and occupied and circle back when vacant. All of the rooms were connected so it was easy to backtrack. Beyond that, everyone seemed respectful of each other and didn't monopolize anyone else's time or experience.
We came back around 8pm to watch the sold-out Matt & Kim concert that brought us to NM in the first place. The stage and viewing area is pretty limited but it was an amazing show in a unique setting. I felt like I was in another world! But, I guess that's the whole point! I would most definitely come back; to watch another concert or to take my time exploring the exhibits.
For those that care, there are hand sanitizing stations that are beautifully decorated/disguised all over the place. For those that are complaining about having nothing to do inside the exhibit,...
