Disappointing Stay. Won’t Be Returning! My boyfriend and I stayed at Voco Sarasota during a trip from Virginia, and unfortunately, we will not be returning. We were excited based on all the great reviews, but our experience fell far below expectations. I’m not typically someone who leaves reviews, but I felt compelled to share because of how subpar our stay was. Parking & Location: The parking setup was one of the highlights. There’s limited outdoor parking, but the attached garage was very convenient, especially with its dedicated elevator. The hotel’s location is also great! Close to both Siesta Key and Lido Key beaches, and within walking or a short driving distance to many restaurants and shops. They also offer a beach shuttle, though we didn’t use it, so I can’t speak to that. Staff: Most of the staff we encountered were friendly and kind. However, there were a few who came across as snappy or unwelcoming. I chose not to let that affect our trip too much, but it’s worth mentioning. Room & Housekeeping: We stayed in a King Suite and brought our dog, which we were excited about since the hotel advertises as pet-friendly. However, this is where our disappointment really began. Despite being pet-friendly, our room was never serviced; no housekeeping at all during our stay. We had to call the front desk multiple times for basic items like towels, washcloths, and toilet paper. Trash built up, and we ended up searching the hall for bins to throw it away ourselves. Even when we made sure the room was available and the dog was out, housekeeping never came, while we saw other pet-friendly rooms being serviced. No sweeping, no tidying, nothing! I’ve stayed in many hotels, and I’ve never experienced this level of neglect for such basic services. If housekeeping was limited due to pet policies, this was not communicated clearly at check-in or on their website. Room Key Issues: Not to mention, the room keys were awful. They rarely worked properly, and we often found ourselves standing at our door swiping over and over, unable to get in. Halfway through our stay, we had enough and went to the front desk to ask for new keys. We explained the problem, but the woman at the front desk, a lighter-complexion woman with braids, seemed visibly annoyed, as if we were bothering her with a simple request. This should’ve been an easy fix handled with understanding, not attitude. I’d recommend guests be aware of potential key card malfunctions during their stay. Pool Area: The pool itself was okay but lacked proper upkeep. There was visible debris in the water, likely due to the surrounding palm trees. It didn’t seem like anyone was actively maintaining the area. Overall, while the location and parking were convenient, the lack of basic housekeeping and inconsistent service really soured our stay. I was hoping for a more relaxing, welcoming experience, but instead found myself managing tasks that should have been handled by the hotel. Sadly, I would not recommend this hotel and don’t see us returning...
Read moreWould stay here again in a heartbeat. Despite the hotel being packed, we really couldn't hear other people. We were on the fourth floor at the very end of the hall, so I don't know what it would be like for those in the middle of a floor. Decorated beautifully. DOOR IS WIDE ENOUGH FOR WHEELCHAIR TO GET ALL THE WAY THROUGH!! :) LOVED that the fridge was actually a wine chiller. Helpful for all the drinks we had brought with us (not wine, but lots of drinks, as well as leftovers we sent home with our son in college here in Sarasota), along with a med that needs to be refrigerated. Nice chifferobe instead of standard closet. HUGE walk-in shower with teak shower seat - only thing is that you have to keep the bathroom door shut to keep the warmth of the shower inside the bathroom if you are the kind of person who tends to run cold. Outlets and USB chargers attached to every light fixture. So cool to not have to worry about bringing an extension cord. Comfortable seating. Bed was probably a 4/5 - expected a little more plush top or something a little cushier, but that was not the case. Would still stay here again. On our second night of a three-night stay, we noticed a sudden, extremely strong smell that could be described as sewage or burning mulch. It was very strong, so much so that we called the front desk. It was past 11 p.m. As MOD made her way up, the smell was dissipating. We couldn't determine if it was water that had built up in the AC unit or if we were smelling any nonpotable water from an irrigation system that maybe the AC system sucked it in. MOD said she could go find some deodorizer since the place was packed and she couldn't move us to another room. Honestly, I wasn't interested in moving to another room. . .just really wanted to make sure that we weren't smelling something we weren't supposed to be smelling and that all was safe. Generously granted us a late checkout when our son's car broke down (while we were up in Sarasota visiting) and our trip turned into more of a "uh-oh, let's see if we can get this fixed while we're here" instead of the relaxed visit we thought we'd have. Turned out we didn't need the late check out, but so nice to know we had it in the event we actually needed to use it. EVERYONE here is incredibly friendly. I mean, everyone. Easy access to St. Armand's Circle, and right across...
Read moreWe visited this hotel indigo in Sarasota less than one month ago. The location is fantastic, the room was ok. On day 2, I wanted to get breakfast in the hotel dining area. There was NO LINE, so I walked over to the hotel bar and sat down. I was not at a table. The waitress was ignoring me, so I very politely asked her if it was ok to get breakfast at the bar. In a very nasty tone, she said I will be with you soon and just do not ever cut in line again. You need to wait to be seated. And then, she turned her finger and pointed to a gentleman standing now who was not there before and said SEE ani’s face, he is angry with you for getting ahead of him. This rude nasty waitress said this all in a loud nasty voice, reprimanding me. I got up and left, went down the street, was treated wonderful and got a breakfast Togo in 10 minutes time. When I complained to the front desk Nicole, she was extremely apologetic and said she would tell her manager. I waited, and no manager approached me. I want to the rude waitress and told her that I got a very nice breakfast from a very nice waitress down the street and I also told the woman that her behavior was extremely rude. Well finally this got the attention of the manager SHANNON MAY. When I began to explain to the manager SHANNON MY how rudely the waitress addresses me as a patron of the hotel, SHANNON MAY reprimanded me!!!!! She said PUT YOUR FINGER DOWN AND STOP POINTING. I went on to say that I know good employees can be hard to find. AGAIN! SHANNON MAY argued and repeated in an angry tone to me that good employees were NOT hard to find. She repeated this twice, Zero compassion, Zero apology, 100% attitude!!!!! My parents have been hotel patrons of Hotel Indigo for ALL the years that the hotel existed. And a few stays per year. I was shocked to be treated in such a humiliating way by a MANAGER!!!!! I called her later and spoke to her, and she said OH! NOW YOU ARE TURNING THIS AROUND ON ME !!! No apology was offered, she was rude and displayed extremely unbecoming behavior for someone in her position. She continued to say to me WELL WHAT DO YOU WANT!! So , I told her, I wanted an apology and I wanted my room taken care of. Never have I been treated in such a way. I could forgive the waitress, she was an employee. BUT!!! The manager, SHANNON MAY needs to be removed from...
