If you're anywhere near Saratoga, Wyoming (especially during colder weather) you need to stop in and experience this free hot spring.
It's open 24/7 and is free... you can leave tips near the entrance if you want, but it's not a requirement.
They have excellent changing rooms, showers, and bathrooms for both men and women.
It truly is a religious experience dipping your body into that hot spring. We also got out after about 15 minutes, then walked over to the cold stream and splashed the freezing water on our bodies.
We went back into the main hot spring to warm up again. The air temperature was around 21 degrees Fahrenheit and it felt amazing. They also have a swimming pool that's operational in the summer.
Next to the hot spring is another pool that's not as hot. Make sure you drink plenty of water and enjoy the healing benefits of the hot spring. Both, me and my brother felt amazing in our legs for about 4 hours after... we both commented on how good we felt as well as when it started to wear off. It's amazing the difference that hot spring had on us.
I don't think we'd ever visit in the summer or on a hot day... but that's just us. We'd wait until the weather is probably under 60 degrees Fahrenheit or so.
But... you gotta try this place... even if it's 2:30 am on a Sunday... you can go sit in the hot spring for free. We will definitely be planning our future trips so we can swing through there and take a dip in it again. Plus... the town is kind of cute... and it'd be fun to spend a day or so exploring beyond the hot spring. We also saw a lot of deer and the scenery is out...
Read moreMmm what to say. It is a type of setup similar to a national park with an amazing hot springs source that flows into every area as well as the river right next to it.
3 relaxing public areas.
Hottest to least hot:
1st: The source spot is the hottest around 120 degrees max based on what I've seen. Typically 116 or less
2nd: The bath area that is around the source spot and is the accessed to the source unless you climb over the stairs and large rocks.
3rd: another wall sperated area that has the hot water pumped or uses thermodynamics and fluid dynamics to make it the lowest temp location.
Plenty of heavy minerals and sulfur for ages.. the bedding or water bed will heat your feet. The main source and adjacent 2nd location has bubbles seen where the source seeps into it. So you can easily step on a hot spot, although not beyond human tolerance.
It all runs off into the river/creek behind the springs. So you can freeze dip and spend seconds to return back to the hot springs.
Public male and public female changing/shower/bathrooms.
Lockers outside with your own lock if you desire to bring one.
Open air baths.
Upper swimming pool area that is open only during normal business hours. It also has some hot springs source (much less) feeding its water...
Read moreThis is a great opportunity to enjoy some hot springs for FREE without having to find some secluded backcountry spring. The facilities are nice, though sparse. It has showers, lockers, a water fountain, and picnic tables behind the shower facility. This is a great place to hit up after a long day in the mountains. It can get crowded Friday and Saturday nights. The winter is the best time to go because it is nice to soak in the pools when it is cold outside. Mornings are also a good time to go if you want to soak quitely, otherwise it is a great place to meet people and have good conversations. There is a donation box on the side of the shower building. They clean the pools out about once a week, on Sundays I think. The Hobo Pool is behind the municipal pool, so you have to walk around to the back to get to the free hot spring. I highly recommend this place! Please don't let your dogs get in the pool as their hair is gross floating around in the pool. Although it says "No Alcohol" most people won't say anything if you are not making a fool of yourself and not using glass bottles (these can break and have glass all along the gravel on...
