Kate's Day Spa — Attraction in Seattle

The massage was good, but the owner lacks the professionalism that one expects from businesses like this. During our massage, she insinuated that I was cheap because I asked if she had a program like Massage Envy that allows you to subscribe to monthly massages. A little dog was running around, which was probably fine, but again lacked a little bit of professionalism. I was late for my second appointment, and I rushed over when she called to let me know. When I got there, I texted, called and waited for 10 minutes in the waiting room, but I didn't get any replies. I got the impression she was ignoring me because I could hear someone in the next room moving around, and she must not have had another customer since I was the one to have that slot. When she did reply after I left, she insisted on knowing my reason for missing the appointment and not calling. She texted me four times asking why. I apologized for missing it, but she seemed to take it personally. I would have happily paid a fee for missing my appointment and ended up giving her the rest of a gift card balance as a concession, but I was left with a bad taste in my mouth from the interaction. I had my first ever massage experience at Kate's Day Spa, and it was truly lovely. From the moment you walk you, you feel calm and cared for. The staff are attentive, thoughtful, caring, and authentic. I worked with Heather, and she was wonderful. As a first time massage-ee, I didn't know what to expect and she walked me through the process and checked-in often to make sure I was feeling comfortable - which I absolutely did!

From an administrative side, they do not have a receptionist, so getting them on the phone can be tough if everyone is in a session. They're responsive via email, and I'd suggest using that medium to reach out to them. I did learn that if you get a PAPER gift certificate, you must present it in-person at time of redemption. If the certificate is purchased online, then they can look up the record to redeem it, but not if it's a paper one.

I have been getting massage from Heather Hardee for years, after discovering her via a gift certificate. Even when I forget to tell her where I most need relief she finds those areas, intuitively. I prefer deep, firm pressure and Heather consistently delivers. Kate is equally gifted--once Heather was unavailable, so I settled for Kate. Ha, it wasn't "settling"--she is just as strong and talented! I highly recommemend either of them. The spa itself has a soothing warm glow, and antique accents. I always look forward to the ambiance & tranquility. Since Covid, they've had to postpone steam baths. Once they feel safe to resume, I highly recommend a 15-30 min steam prior to massage.
