At the top of MacLean Park, there is a fantastic viewpoint which gives you great views of Lake Union, Cascade Mountains, including I think Mt Baker. It is a great place to watch the 4th of July fireworks, as locals come and sit on the ground, bring chairs, it fills up with about 50 people.... One of the best places in all of the city to watch the fireworks. Forget gasworks, come here- why deal with the massive crowds when you can see them from here with a small group of people.
