SO COOPERRATE I FEEL LIKE THIS SOMETHING YOU SHOULD READ AND FIX
Just had the absolute worst experience at Evergreen goodwill over a small recliner.
I was furniture shopping while on FaceTime with my father, I went through every couch and cushion there to find a nice little black recliner priced at 19.99 I was super excited and my dad who works for another branch of goodwill told me to remove the tag and pay for it.
I remove the tag take a photo of the chair and head to a employee. I asked what the hold time and gave her the tag and showed her the chair.
She told me she'd get a manager because "we don't do that" and the manager proceeded to eye me down and tell me "we can't sell this to you it's the wrong price, how do we know the chair was actually 19.99? Do you have proof? We are repricing this now" I was in shock and said I literally removed the tag from the chair you can feel it. Check the cameras anything I didn't switch tags. You're practically accusing me of stealing.
She told me "you can purchase the chair at the new price or not" I said no, it was 19.99. She walks away leaving with the tag in her hand and never came back to talk to me.
My parents are fuming on FaceTime, I'm at the verge of tears because she just hinted that i was tag switching infront of all these people who proceed to stare at me.
My mother called the store, was frustrated and told the woman the same thing how was I supposed to lift this chair?, no one was there to help me so I removed the tag to pay. She hung up on my mother saying you're not going to waste both managers time and that I can't prove it was that price.
I asked for another manager and proceeded to get berated, told "oh well" "are you going to keep you're repeating yourself? I told you it's not 19.99 I'm not checking the cameras" "you can go" "you can come back tomorrow when it's repriced" "I'm going to have a attitude with you I already told you no" the woman literally refused to listen to me, saying "the manager already explained the situation. You asked for a price check. They told you it was wrong I'm not selling the chair to you" "why would we check the cameras for one customer when we have to watch for shoplifters? That's a waste of time"
I couldn't even get a word in, she spoke over me, smiling and I literally was holding back tears while saying please check the cameras I didn't switch tags. I just want to buy the chair. It was a no, I put all my other merchandise on the counter and walked fuming and crying.
My father decided to call after I left in tears The woman proceeded to say "go ahead and call corporate and I will call as well and explain how your daughter was acting" which makes 0 sense. I was trying to talk at a calm tone but this woman yelled over me saying I've been repeating myself.and she's going to talk over me.
So thanks to Jessica and Maria at Evergreen. Goodwill for this awful experiemce. I was embarrassed and humiliated. Practically begging these women to check the cameras instead of calling me a liar to my face. Then to proceed to say "you can buy it tommrorow at the correct price :)"

Read moreI had a problem after a mistake was made on a small purchase of mine. I left the store but returned later that day when to resolve the missing I found upon reviewing my receipt. The manager on duty refused to refund his employees error because I didn't bring back my items with the recietpt to prove the error. I called prior to returning to the store and asked the employee who answered if they could process my credit due with just my receipt and was informed that yes I could. So I traveled the hour it takes me to get to the Dearborn location with only the receipt. Then the manager Sane, refused to honor my refund. I had invested a total of 4 hours of my day commuting to and fro to this store, when I first arrived I actually dropped off two bags of donations before entering the store to shop. The return total was for $8. Due to honest mistake made by one of his employees. It should have been processed easily and without hassle, but instead I was treated like a criminal, and berated for not taking care of the error at the time I checked out. I always check receipts at home after errands, I don't like going over receipts in the store after a purchase, I get real bad social anxiety over it and start to shake. I don't know why. So I check 'em at home. I have gone to other establishments in the past with small receipt issues over my years of shopping for home and self and never been questioned twice about resolving the problem. Yet Shane, a Goodwill the organizations management representative in charge refused my request. He talked to like I was lucky not to have police called about me trying to get my $8 back. And I had donated two bags that very morning! If that is the type of "Goodwill" and service given by this organization's employees then why support it's business by free donations of 95% of their merchandise? Goodwill is a business simply because we give to them almost their entire store merchandise for free! They even have it set up for us to bring them the merchandise! They don't need to pay for merchandise pickup/delivery even because of the drop off donation station on store site. And I can't be credited $8? Where is community service in that? The prices at the Goodwill stores has already raised that compete with new item selection out there, so why did I always round up for them? I'm on a fixed income. I come from the very demographic that Goodwill promotes helping. Shane represented Goodwill that day, and he did not help me, and inprofessionally spoke to me to boot. I'm completely disgusted by Goodwill now. I will never again round up, and I've found another donation site. My budget forces me to consider shopping there again, but I'm doing my best to never set foot in that lying, no customer service culture again. I will learn how to make my clothing from reclaimed fabric found on the street, before I will be happy to give this bogus con artist organization another red cent. $8 was stolen and my spirit was abused that day. Thank you Shane for your retched concept of customer service. Thank you Goodwill for hiring and training employees with no regard for their fellow...
Read moreThe prices at this Goodwill are just out of control. They are not just absurd, but insulting. In May 2024, MANY of the items I bothered to look at the price of are actually CHEAPER at the original retail store when the item goes on sale NEW. That's ABSURD for a GOODWILL. Not to mention that this GOODWILL never puts the good stuff on the shelves anymore. EVER. It is slim pickings here. I come here because I live a couple minutes away and pass by here near daily. Up until just a year or two ago, I would always find somebody else's castoff treasures for pocket change that I wanted to take home. And then I'd have to sort out which of the dozens of things I'd picked out at the world's largest GOODWILL that I actually room for. Shopping here used to be an adventure and FUN with friends. Hey, look at what I found. And it's only $3-$5-$10-$15 at most. Even the collectibles. Then I guess whatever genius manager took over decided EVERYTHING was a collectible and started putting $30 $40 price tags on stuff.
Man, are you SERIOUS? $30 for a wooden ladder shelf? $40 for wooden chest? Simple pine wood, not like antique-y or artisanal stuff. That stuff never even makes out on the floor!
And the clothing? Anything with a decent label is black labeled and never goes on the color rotation sale. Fashion Corner whatever.
This place has turned into the anti-GOODWILL for me. I kinda go in there every once in a while because of the goodwill i've built up with some of the employees, who are cool, who know me because I buy a lot of stuff there because I decorate lot of places and they ask me if I saw the thing that they think I should have looked at and if I missed it, I go round again.
I've bought some really cool things at this GOODWILL, spent some great time with friends, actually met some really cool people who turned out to be decent friends (I know, weirdo - me). And I miss it. Another old Seattle institution, GONE. Poof.
The sad thing is, I got here less that ten years ago, and people used to tell me about the character of Old Seattle - the Lusty Lady, the Old Seattle TImes building, the Elephant Car Wash, all times of a PNW of an independent character past. But I still got to see the vanishing of the Ramps to Nowhere, Hilltop Station, Bartells, and now the death of the Evergreen GOODWILL. Because it ain't the same GOODWILL no more. Dead zombie walking. All on the march to the genericization of America, no more PNW with PNW institutions. Next up, Fred Meyer and QFC and a pic of any block of Seattle will be the same as any other block of the US.
Man, it's a freaking thrift store where people DONATE all of the goods. Try not to be so damned corporate like the rest of America. We're all sick of that stuff. We don't need your slick corporate management and profit making schemes and crappy mind virus invading the place that recycles other people's junk. Give it a...
