My family and I returned last weekend from our once-in-a-lifetime family road trip to the Smokey Mts. We stayed at Hatcher Mountain Hideaway in Sevierville, TN rented by Summit Cabins. We drove for five days/four nights to "escape to the serene Hatcher Mountain Hideaway" where we expected to immerse ourselves in nature and "escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and experience the true serenity of the Smokies." ||There was nothing to fault about the cabin itself. Everything was lovely and clean, however, the main reason we picked Hatcher Mt Hideaway above many of the other cabins we saw, which also looked lovely inside, was because we had expected some serenity in the mountains. The drive to the cabin was quite frightening with its steep grade and very narrow roadway, blind turn after blind turn and then that final climb to the driveway. While that didn't come across in the description, we dealt with it knowing that it is the cost of climbing into the mountains for escape and serenity. But no. What also wasn't communicated at any point was the fact that there would be no serene mornings to enjoy our coffee and tea as we overlooked the beautiful view.||That very first morning, I was awakened from inside the master bedroom (the furthest room from the construction) before around 7:30am to a sound of a nail gun going off and off and off. Then it was a saw and lumber being moved and dropped and workers chatting and more nail gun. The workers were doing their job--I don't fault them. But, I do fault the owners of the cabin, who quite likely also own the two new ones being built or at the very least were well aware of the construction well before we arrived since one cabin was nearly complete and a second had half a wall up and before walls can go up, permits need to be pulled, foundations need to be poured, etc. ||We should have been informed that there was construction when it began, which also had to be at least a month or more ago, and either offered a discount on the property if we chose to stay there after being informed, which we would not have, or offered another cabin that was not beside a construction site as an alternative place to stay. Neither of these options were given and, in fact, we were never given any reason to expect anything but serenity for our stay. ||When my husband texted about the issue, he was simply told that there are lots of properties and that construction happens quickly and he received no word or options beyond that--no offer for a partial refund or an alternative place to stay that would offer quiet mornings while our children slept. Nothing. That was beyond disappointing! We hoped that the next morning, perhaps Summit would do something, but nothing was done. ||I cannot express what a sour taste this situation has left in our mouths and how angry this situation made my husband and me each morning we woke to the same construction zone. During such a hot week, the mornings could have been the most peaceful and relaxing time for us, but it was not. When we chose to sit on the front porch we could hear nothing but construction and were on display for the workers to see and no view could compensate for the noise. If we sat on the lovely side screened porch, where the construction and workers were less in our sightlines, all we would hear was saws, lumber being moved, drill, a compressor, the nail guns, and conversations from workers. Again--they were doing their work, but the point is that it was so close and so in our face--it felt like we had been scammed to pay as much as we did per night for a place located in a construction zone. ||As I mentioned previously, the road was not for the slight of heart and adding the traffic of two more cabins to a very precarious driveway seems careless at best and negligent at worst. We had to try to time our descent down the mountain road so we didn't run into a work truck coming up at some point. I would have eliminated the driving stress by just staying in the more populated part of town if I knew that all the effort to stay on a mountainside would result in being woken up by a nail gun at 7:30am each morning and the opposite of serenity.||So, while the infuriating experience cannot be undone, the current construction situation on Indigo Road should be fully communicated to anybody who currently is scheduled to rent the property BEFORE they arrive, as any hotel or rental company would ensure, so that your renters can make a decision as to whether or not they want to stay at a construction site before they arrive. Unfortunately, the listing on their site has not been updated with this information and other than a three question survey we answered that is not included on their "reviews" section, we were not asked for a review. So, perhaps they only want to post positive reviews about cabins, which is very misleading. Either have zero reviews or include all reviews, not a selected few positive ones. This cabin is in no way, currently, a serene retreat as advertised. The construction disruption should be clearly stated in the rental property description until construction is complete. I would not want another family to have to deal with what we did during what is supposed to be a special trip.||I would love to be able to leave a glowing review for the cabin and for Summit, but cannot. Knowing that it is impossible for you, at Summit, to visit each property and see current conditions, perhaps you need to make clear to the cabin owners that they need to update your company about any construction, etc that would change the terms and expectations of...
Read morePlease DON'T rent from Summit Cabin Rental "JUST 4 FUN" you will regret! !My family and I stayed at the Summit Cabin Rental Just 4 Fun cabin over Thanksgiving weekend (11/23/2016-11/27/2016). Although the layout of the cabin was beautiful, throughout our stay, it became abundantly clear that the upkeep of the cabin had been severely neglected. Please see bullet points below outlining all the issues we experienced during our stay.
Soon after entering the cabin, on 11/23/2016, my niece tried to sit on the living room sectional couch and flipped off the couch because a section of the couch was not anchored down. My sister-in-law also fell off that same couch the next day due to a broken arm on a different section of the couch. Basically, we all had to be mindful of where we sat on the couch and the couch had several sinking spots. One section of the couch did not have any cushion; it felt like we were sitting on a rock. As we were preparing our Thanksgiving dinner we discovered that the oven was broken. We placed our turkey in the oven on 375 degrees at approximately 12:30am on 11/24/2016. My aunt and I woke up at approximately 5:00am to check on the turkey only to discover the turkey was still raw, which completely ruined our Thanksgiving dinner. The living room's fireplace was broken and the heat in the lower level did not work. Due to not having heat in the lower level, the maintenance man brought a space heater the day we checked in, but it tripped the circuit breaker every night. One night, between 10pm-2am, we had to go out in the cold approximately 5-7 times to the flip the switch on the circuit breaker so the lower level lights and space heater would work. The maintenance man stated he would come back to fix the heat on Friday, however, he never returned, even after I called on Friday to report a number of other issues discovered over the course of the two days I had been there. The table that was against the window in the dining room was wobbly and unsteady. Most of the chairs were very loose and rocky and we were not able to use many of the chairs due to fear that they would break. Most of comforters were very worn and in need of replacement. Some of the throw pillows were very dusty. The pull-out couch was also very worn and we didn't feel safe sleeping on it. The pump, for the blow up beds provided, was missing so we could not use the air mattresses. The washing machine was broken and my niece was unable to wash her infant son's clothes. The light blew out in the hall going down to the lower level and as a result my niece fell down the stairs.
My family and I paying over $2,000.00 to stay at this cabin for Thanksgiving weekend. That is a heavy price to pay for such subpar conditions, and actually subpar is too nice because some of the conditions were deplorable. The customer service received once these issues were reported was not much better and offering 10% of our money back, as some form of compensation, is insulting considering all the inconveniences we experienced. Would you want to pay almost $2,500 for a place with no heat on one level, a faulty circuit system, a malfunctioning stove, a broken washing machine, with dusty, dated and broken furniture? After trying to contact Summit Cabin Rentals by phone many times and email no one would contact me back to resolve...
Read moreJust got home from our family trip. We stayed in Blue Ridge Refuge. I’ll start by saying the cabin was ok. Nothing that really makes you go “wow this is a real nice/great place”. There are 8 bedrooms. The 2 rooms on the main floor have a full bath with shower each. The 2 rooms on the second floor have bathrooms. Only one of the rooms has a shower. The 2 rooms on the 3rd floor each have their own bathroom with shower. On the 3rd floor in the second community area there is another bathroom with a shower. So in total there are 6 bathrooms with showers. 1 room on the second floor does not have their own shower. Not really explained that way in the description. Windows could be cleaned a little better. The garbage bins outside are very small for the amount of people who can stay there. You will probably have to call Summit and have them pick up garbage mid week if you’re staying for a week. The fridge is a French door style. The left door has a flap that doesn’t close on its own. If you don’t make sure that flap is closed the fridge don’t stay cold. The parking is very tight. We had 6 vehicles. A Buick Enclave and a Traverse were the biggest vehicles. You can pull in to the parking area or do a 5 point turn around and back into the parking area. Either way you need to turn around before you leave the cabin. We did lose the A/C unit in the second floor the second or 3rd night. We called Summit and they did get some one out the next day. It was warm but not unbearable. Just walking in the rooms is very very noisy for the people in the rooms under you. Allot of squeaks and cracking. Water pressure is very low. We also had a water main break. Water pressure started low after the fix. The county did a great job repairing that in a timely fashion. Within about 4 hours. There are 2 floor fans in the closet on the second floor. Those do come in handy if it is hot. They do help move the cool air around. The pool table isn’t very level. You can watch the balls roll to one side. Could use more silver ware in the kitchen. Some of it is kids size. Not enough room on any of the decks for a big group to sit on. And none of them felt the strongest for a lot of people anyway. The fireplace on the main level has all stone around it. With quite a few stones missing. Tiles are cracked in the kitchen and most of the bathrooms on the one side of the cabin. Over all opinion on the cabin….. it’s ok. Not enough seating in either living area for everyone if you want to sit and talk. Most of the time we had to sit on the wood benches at the tables to hang out. Ample room for sitting to eat. With only having 1 fridge everyone brought their own cooler for whatever drinks. Had to buy ice a couple times and fill the coolers. The view wasn’t the greatest. If you sat out on your deck in your room the neighbors could look right at you and talk to you. Also, we received “$1200 in free attraction tickets”. Also a little misleading. We were told we would get 1 ticket per attraction for each day we rented. We rented 6 days. We assumed we would get 6 free tickets. We did but we were told we could only use 1 ticket per attraction per day. So let’s say we got 6 tickets for Dolly Wood. We couldn’t use all 6 on Wednesday. We could only use 1 ticket per day. We weren’t going to go to Dolly Wood 6 days so we never used any of the tickets. Just something else that’s a little...
