I brought six very light boxes to the library for donation. I parked right out front.
I asked the children's librarian if someone could bring the boxes inside because I had a groin injury and should limit the amount of lifting I did.
She hemmed and hawed, so I finally asked if I could borrow a cart so I could bring the books inside myself, which really pissed me off.
Later, I complained to an upstairs librarian about what happened and said it was wrong. She completely patronized me and defended the fact that nobody at the library could help me.
I brought the books to the library out of the goodness of my heart, with an injury from a very physical truck driving job where I move very heavy things daily. If I told a customer at my trucking company that I wouldn't lift 6 light boxes, I'd be fired.
I'll NEVER donate another book. NEVER. There are unbelievably lazy and unhelpful people at the library. They just phone it in. It's a typical office-like environment where no one goes above and beyond for others. At my job, I always go above and beyond. I get filthy. I get hurt. I get abused physically and verbally. And I don't have set hours, and I get virtually no sleep. Consequently, I can't make any plans outside work. I work outside in the snow and rain, and back giant, noisy tractor trailers into every conceivable tight space. But as difficult as my job is I still go above and beyond for customers--especially when they need my help.

I asked an African American librarian seated near the upstairs entrance where the poetry section was located. Initially, the aforementioned individual didn't seem very enthusiastic about helping me, but eventually, after seeming somewhat nonplussed, she began laboriously typing on a keyboard. I waited patiently for her to respond to my query, but ultimately, became a tad impatient since it was taking an inordinate amount of time to respond. So I lightheartedly said "It's that difficult to direct me to the poetry section of the library?" Her response was a brusque "Excuse me! You asked for something very specific!" I calmly replied, "No, actually, I asked for something very general. I asked you to please direct me to the poetry section." Finally, after ages of more typing and squinting into a computer screen, she provided me with a specific number, not a general aisle or location in the library. Firstly, if someone is that unknowledgeable as to where the poetry section is located in the library, she should brush up on her familiarity regarding the library's layout. Secondly, she shouldn't have responded so rudely when asked a...
Read moreAt this time in my life, I'm becoming somewhat of a library connoisseur. I usually go to the children's section because they always have good play areas for kids. I even like read to my kids there sometimes (when they want to listen). The rest of the library is upstairs.
Simsbury Public Library is definitely one of my favorites. Once you walk in, the childrens section is on the left side. The employees were very friendly. They have up to date technology, which is convenient! There is a kiosk you can check your books/items out with. Don't forget to download the Libby App, you can borrow audiobooks on there. Also, you can reserve items and they leave it in a lock box outside and you can pick it up after hours.
The library is a great resource; they offer programs, services, computer access, museum passes, workshops, and career/business centers. I highly...
Read moreThe only beef I have is one I addressed with them that went unanswered which is not acceptable as is the fact that the weekly newsletter emails contain information on special events for that CURRENT week, some of which happen to be on the same day as or the very day after I GET said email. This too is unacceptable as it is too short of notice for most people who might want to attend these events and would like between a week and a month ideally to plan. However, the collection is so diverse and so impressive, it's within walking distance of my house and I have enjoyed their Valentine blind date with a book read-a-thon very much the past couple of seasons. Pleased to have been chosen to win a hand knit scarf last winter after it...
