I can’t believe that the recent reviews are true. I think they may be compensate by the new owner or they haven’t lived here for a long time. My husband was born and raised here. He had lived here all of his life. This Mike wannabe cowboy thinks that Tahoe is Bigger mountain town than it actually is. He doesn’t realize that the locals are the ones that take care of our local business in the slim times.
This store has gone down hill since Robert sold the store. Most of the staff are not crossed trained. They don’t give any discounts for local , military or has price match like they once did. In the old days you could come inwith a small problem and show the part to almost any of the staff and they would know about it or direct you the right person. Not anymore. Except for the old timers, Blaze, Mikie, Gram, Patrick and one or two more. Although MOST of the staff are really nice and try to be helpful. They used have items that was specifically needed for our area. Yes, some of the items that we would need just once in awhile or needed in a pinch but Scotty’s always had the items . It seems that Mr. Langford has come in and want us to cater to his ways rather than the other way around. Tahoe is still considered a small mountain town, even though some newbie want to change this, it s not and hopefully it won’t become one. It seems like Mr Langford is one of these people.
The service department has gone way down hill. Unfortunately they are really not a part of Ace hardware Corporation, this is according to Ace headquarters. I have heard from several locals , that You have to fight and show so much evidence if someone worked on a lawnmower , snowblower etc and it was returned to you not working its unbelievable. They really do NOT back up there work anymore without a fight. I over heard Mr. Langford telling another customer that a person brought in a snowblower that was repaired there and it broke again, he said that you could tell that the customer was lying by looking at the snowblower that the customer only used it once and it had they same problem that the customer had the last time. And Langford wasn’t going to honor it. Luckily they had evidence. As he was speaking to a customer that was thinking about buying a snowblower, I hope that customer reconsider after that remark.
But, if you go back to service dept and speak with Mikie or Gram they will say bring it in and let us take a look. Gram and Mikie has a great work ethic. Since Gram is part time , Mikie is overloaded, overworked , and the newest guy Tony doesn’t have much experience in the service department and hasn’t had a chance to learn much from some of the best two mechanics we have on the hill.
Neil’s Hardware has a good service dept but there in the middle of town, which services more for there area .There usually a waiting list there as well , but Im pretty sure that back up there services.
I dont think DYI have a service dept. I have always just gone to Scotty’s.
To the Long time locals reconsider going somewhere else for a while. Order items ahead of time that you may need in the future or something. Maybe if Mr. Langford pocket gets a little smaller , he will look within and become a welcomed addition to our...

The hardware store has merely everything you may need or can order. The paint department is exceptional and a main reason I go there. Paint department manager, Anne, has never failed to provide exact paint matches. They also carry top of the line products for a reasonable price. They are your one stop,...

Great service, great customer service. Can't...
