I want to give a very special thank you to the wonderful staff at the South Miami Library. Recently, I visited with my 15-year-old son, who has autism, and I was deeply moved by the kindness and professionalism we experienced.
First, I’d like to recognize Jerry. He has helped me before, and once again he showed what an asset he is to the library. His professionalism and patience truly stand out.
I also want to thank Valerie (or Val). I apologize if I didn’t spell your name correctly, but I want you to know how much of an impact you made. Even though you only spent a few minutes with my son, the way you interacted with him left a lasting impression. Sometimes it doesn’t take long to make a real difference, and you certainly did.
And finally, a big thank you to Michelle Styles, one of the directors. She has been kind and supportive in the past, and I’m grateful once again for her help.
As a parent, I was a little worried about how my son would be received, but these three amazing people made me feel at ease and, more importantly, made my son feel seen and valued. I’m very proud of him, and I know that those brief moments of kindness from the library staff created a positive impact on his life.
Thank you to Jerry, Val, Michelle, and the entire South Miami Library team for showing such care and compassion. You are making a real difference in...
Read moreI do not recommend this library. To start with, the woman in the middle (they change shifts and this morning there was an African-American woman between 45 and 54 years old) may be older, her dark skin eats away at the years, but that's more or less how she looks. Very very RUDE. I'll be waiting to find out her name for next time. Today, Monday morning, the one who had that shift will know who she is. From the moment I arrived and said good morning, she was rude. Then I came back because I had to do something and she was even ruder. Gentlemen, do not put "people" without patience to serve/assist the people. She was in a very bad mood and it was as if she was paying me to serve me (she must know that her salary comes from the clients, but even if not, she has no right to be so RUDE. She even put her hands on her head, and even though she practically yelled at me, I remained calm and polite. Please get her...
Read moreHomeless with a disability who doesn't need to be walking around extra times in the elements. The accomodations I needed is to be able to keep going to this Library to do remote workforce training and seek out remote income opportunities. It's the easiest while I'm in this area that is central to most of what is necessary to me at this time. They are discriminating after months of allowing myself and others to utilize this public resource. I should not have to travel and risk extra stress induced health issues to accomplish the things necessary to my forward progress. Mainly 1 or 2? staff members or community members that are more concerned about appearances with my wagon of stuff that is essentially my assistive device to get me through each day. They should be more concerned about supporting the ones that are trying in the ways that work better for them, and not just moving us all out...
