All in all the hotel wasn't that bad and I will say the hotel was absolutely stunning. My Bf and I stayed for two nights so here is the run down.
First, there is no free parking at the hotel unless you park across the street and walk. All the parking in front of the hotel is valet only and is $35 a day. Once you check in they'll give you a parking tag to give to the valet.
The front desk representative was helpful and told me where the elevators were, housekeeping, etc.
There's a small gift shop that sells Starbucks and desserts in the front. The hotel is new and is very beautiful inside.
There is also a Bar Louie's on the back side of the hotel. One half is an inside restaurant where they play live music every night and also brunch 8-1 (breakfast was delicious and a big fan of the $2 mimosas) the other half of the bar Louie is on the other side of the pool. Is an open restaurant with beautiful views of the beach and a walkway that leads directly to it.
The pool was stunning and clean! A lot of water sprinklers etc to really set it off. They also have plenty seating and plenty beach towels.
As far as the room, we got a king room with a balcony. I thought the only balconies of the hotel faced the beach/pool, however they are on all sides. We were on a side that luckily we had a partial view of the beach but be sure to call and request a pool side view room if you can because they do have balconies that face the front parking lot.
The bed was a little too firm but manageable. The room was also very spacious and plenty of lighting. My only negative take on the room was the pillow cases were stained and the shower is very odd. There's only a partial glass door so the back side is just open which can lead to a watery mess so definitely lay towels down.
But other than that, the room was very nice and also very modern. Bar Louie also provides room service to the room. One thing I also found weird was the beach side portion of bar Louie closed at like 10:30-11. You'd think they would stay open much later. Once they close the beach side portion be warned there's no way to get back into the hotel unless you walk all the way down a huge parking lot because there's a bar right next door called Clayton's. So just be prepared to not be able to get back in through that route if you miss the closing. I believe the pool also closes at 10 or 11.
The restaurant/bar next door though is humongous and plenty of seating. They also stay open until 2 am according to their menu.
Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would...
Read moreThe Courtyard Marriott in South Padre far exceeded our expectations. It was extremely clean (despite how easily it can get dirty with dripping water & sand). The conference rooms were easy to find (even though we didn’t utilize them, they had a great layout). The lobby and long hallway were decorated nicely and were kept very clean. Despite the interesting shape of the hotel, the space was very well-utilized.
The pool was AWESOME, and my entire family enjoyed it, including my young kids and even my mom who has mobility issues. There were two accessible ramps—one into the pool and one to access the splash pad—that allowed her to swim for the first time in a very long time. We were so, so grateful for that.
The proximity to the beach was absolutely perfect. The only complaint was that the foot washing station was only a hose (not a shower with separate foot shower), and it was closed the second day only because they had been painting it. We tracked in quite a bit of sand because of that, though I’m sure it’s quite rare for the station to be closed. A tall shower with separate foot shower would have been great—multiple showers would have been amazing. Minus half a star for that, though still rounds up to five stars 😄
The only other negative was that our fridge was unplugged when we arrived, and my daughter put all our groceries for the following lunch in the hot fridge… we didn’t realize it until the following day. However, the hotel was very generous to credit our groceries back to us because of the error. My advice might be to double-check and make sure the fridge is plugged in and running before you put food in—don’t rely on your kids to do it 😅 no stars removed because they did make it right.
Other than that, we had an amazing stay. The executive suite had MORE than enough room, and the beds were very comfortable. There were all the linens we needed to use the sofa bed, which is often rare in a hotel room with a sofa bed!
Also, the staff was very kind. We requested a couple extra towels, and they sent someone up to our room with FIVE extra towels.. of each size 😂 we couldn’t use our free Marriott night nor any of our Marriott points at this hotel, but we were very well-taken care of here. We would absolutely...
Read moreFront desk rep, Lisa I think, was very professional and made the check-in process a breeze. She was able to get us connecting rooms, as well as an upgrade on them, that was very nice of them to do. We stayed during the week to avoid the weekend crowds, and were not disappointed. Lobby is very ample. Rooms were nice and clean. The pool is clean and with a good size. The restaurant has an extensive menu and is next to the pool, and the beach access takes you to it in just minutes. I just think the parking situation and traffic could be better, but I would still come back to this property.
update Second night in we received a call from the front desk rep, asking us to lower down the tv volume because there had been a noise complaint about it. We we’re staying in two adjacent rooms, and both rooms had their tv on at normal volume, nothing out of the ordinary. I asked “the tv volume?” Because I was surprised about it, and I was thinking on how to properly further address this issue, when the rep said he would appreciated if we turned the volume down to assist them with this noise complaint. I said ok but the TVs remained the same since their volumes were not loud. I have been staying on Marriot properties for close to 7 years now (I have a high status with them thanks to this), and I have never been on a “noise complaint” situation during all these years. I wonder if the people that complained were too sensitive regarding noises, or if the rep contacted the incorrect room. Either way, I am not a fan of how it was handled, it looked like the front desk rep sided with the people that called and just blamed us for something we didn’t do. In our previous stays, during weekends, in both occasions there have been extremely loud guests partying, in upper, lower, and same floors, and I have never witnessed the level of enforcement I was just subjected to. This was the main reason we decided to stay during weekdays, but I see that might’ve been a mistake. Not sure at this point if I would come back to this property again, definitely have some thinking to do. This is not a factor to change hotel brands to use for my work, not at this...
