Preloved SF is currently doing a $100 gift card giveaway if you leave a review, so there are going to be a lot of positive ones. Hereâs my honest review!
As a seller: I have sold both at Provo and Spanish Fork, both before and after the booth rental increase. (At the time of writing this, it went from $25 to rent a booth for a week to $35 to rent a booth for a week. You used to keep 75% of what you made and now itâs 65% (AKA they keep over 1/3) of what you made.) I sell on Poshmark too, and I tend to make $10-15 per item. As someone who sells on Poshmark, with the new booth rental prices, I can easily make more on Poshmark. For me, Preloved was worth it prior to the booth rental increase (and when I was just trying to clean out my closet, which is what theyâre all about, anyway!), but now, the store keeps too large of a percentage for it to be worth it for me to sell there anymore. Which is a bummer, because I really love this business model! But if you are someone who is just going to donate your clothes anyway, then yes, selling at Preloved is worth it! I typically stock sizes XS-XXL in my womenâs booth, and I tend to sell XS-S the most. The nice thing is that things donât have to be name brand to sell, although that can help! I also donât like that now you have to decide what amount your booth will go on discount on what days in advance. I get why they changed that, but before, if I saw I wasnât selling enough, I could go on a higher discount as the week went on to help with that. Now I just have to hope Iâm choosing the right discount amount on the right day.
At Spanish Fork, during opening week and prior to the booth rental increase, I made $191.25. A few weeks later, when things were less busy/exciting and the booth rental price went up/take home pay went down, I made $81.51 one week and $59.96 the other. This included me posting almost daily on my stories for them to reshare on their own Instagram, going in and manually slashing prices, and restocking items throughout the week. I did the work, I promise.
As a buyer: This is hit and miss since the booths tend to change each week and are stocked by individual sellers. I have found some items I really love, and for great deals, but it can also feel overwhelming to look through everything. But all of that is the nature of thrifting, after all! Based off of Instagram stories, it seems like they have a harder time filling booths at SF lately. Whether that is due to the location, the new booth rental prices, or just because the SF location has more booths than Provo, I donât know. So there seem to be a lot of booths that carry over because thereâs availability, and therefore itâs not completely new items each week. I like to come a few times a week â Saturday when the new booths come in to scope out what there is and buy anything that I really want that is already a good deal and may sell quickly. And then maybe one or two times later in the week as the booths go on discount and items are even cheaper than before. If you want nice (sometimes even new!), trendy boutique or name-brand items that (typically) may cost you a little more than DI or other thrift stores, Preloved is great to shop at. Itâs not as hard to find nice items as it is at other thrift stores, and I love the idea of buying items to help support (mostly) other women in my community! I have personally had more luck (better deals, but then again, Iâm a mom, and itâs easy for me to spend money on anyone besides myself) buying childrenâs items than womenâs items, but I have bought some of each and I am happy with my purchases.
I also wanted to note that everyone who works at Preloved is SO nice! It really is a great environment and I love the Spanish Fork location. I really do think that Preloved is a great place to shop at, but again, since each booth is stocked by individuals, you have to come in to see what sizes youâll find! I will continue shopping here as a buyer, but I do not plan to sell at...
Read moreUpdate: After posting this review I was contacted personally by a supervisor. Jenny went above and beyond to correct the problem and the manager who is on vacation was contacting employees to discuss better customer service.đ„č That is the preloved intention and I appreciate Jenny and the team for being the team I know theyâve had intentions to be all along. I will continue to shop at preloved and look forward to the time I will be spending in the store. So good to know there are places where they truly care about their customers. In fact preloved makes you more than a customer. You are family! I recommend for all of you to spend time at this location and enjoy the experience and the love they have for what they are doing!
I am an avid lover of preloved. I shop the Spanish fork location often even though the commute is 40 minutes for me round trip (itâs the closest one). Iâve told all my friends about it and they love it too. But Iâve noticed something becoming a pattern with the employees at the location thatâs actually been pretty negative to experience.
Over the course of the last 6 months Iâve had negative interactions with this locations employees 9.8/10 times. Itâs almost always when asking a question or for help. The response tends to be annoyed or unwilling to help.
Iâve also had multiple items go missing when they have posted left behind I message and it takes forever to get a response. Iâll call and they have told me twice they will hold my item. Every other time theyâve just informed me itâs probably been thrown out without taking the time to go look. The first time it was a personal item. They said they would hold it for me I drove up the next day and they looked for 2 minutes and then told me they would call me cause they were busy and didnât have time to look anymore. They never called me I asked about it the following time I came in and they informed me it probably got thrown away and they didnât look for it.
I did a booth last week the employees seemed annoyed when approached for questions regarding booths and were âtoo busy to helpâ though most of them were just chatting behind the counter. After clean up Friday one of my items that wasnât at my booth got posted as left behind. I messaged them within 40 minutes of the post. They didnât answer. I finally called them Saturday around 4pm after being unable to get a hold of them. They said they couldnât help me but I could come in and get help Monday cause the manager knew where it is and she would be in that day.
I messaged this morning and they said to come in and they could get my item. I drove up there cause I did want that item being that it didnât sell. The girl brought me to the back said she had no idea where it was. But I could look through some bags. She went upfront and messaged the team. After I looked through half of them she told me the manager was on vacation and they couldnât help me til she got back. She also said weird you were told she would be in cause she hasnât been. then she asked for my phone number and told me she would call me in a weekđ€Šđ»ââïž I donât plan to get that phone call. And Iâm sure when I ask in a week the answer will be they have probably been thrown away.
I give two stars. One cause I love the concept of preloved. The second because of one nice employee that wasnât super helpful but was actually pleasant to talk to.
I recommend better communication among team members, more willingness, a better system for left behind/ now missing items, and some training on how to be more approachable as a customer service...
Read moreI found Preloved last summer and I loved it!! There are so many good finds and I recommend all my friends and family to go here to find items for a good price! The employees are very kind and I love that they have new items every week! I have just loved this specific shopping concept.
I have always contemplated on selling my clothes here and I finally decided to do so last week. I am very happy with the money I received but I do have a major concern that I only noticed once I started to sell here.
The communication as far as getting set up is great. However, I came in to check on my booth a couple of hours after I set it up and my nice clothing items were stuffed in other peopleâs booths, or thrown on the floor, or shoved in the back corner of my booth where no one can see it and canât be sold. Things were half way off of their hangers and misplaced everywhere.
After I saw the state of my booth, just after a couple of hours, I felt the need to come in every day after that to make my booth look presentable and retrieve my clothing from other booths. One day, I came in and noticed a belt that went with an expensive jumpsuit from Albion Fit, was still there but not the jumpsuit. I got nervous that this jumpsuit was taken, or thrown into someone elseâs corner of their booth, missing, or someone bought it without the belt.
It normally wouldnât be too big of a deal but the clothes that are advertised to sell here are expensive, name brand clothing, that are sold second hand for a good, reasonable price. Even though the seller is selling these items, it doesnât mean that the seller doesnât care about these items.
I am not 100% sure what the solution would be. But my guess would be to have an employee stand outside of dressing rooms and assure that these items get placed correctly and respectfully back in their booths. At least during the busiest times of the week (i.e. opening on Saturday or Friday with all the discounts.)
I just wanted to reiterate that I LOVE Preloved and I LOVE the concept. I met Satu (the owner) once, and she is definitely the kind of person I love supporting. After this particular experience, I just know that this would be something that would need to be fixed before I try...
