My daughter and I love this skate park. It was very thoughtfully designed and packs a TON of stuff into a moderately sized space. There's a huge variety of features, which makes it fun for a wide range of experience. I have only been skating transition a few years, and this park has helped me a lot along the way. It also has a small 3' bowl, which was very accessible for us early on. Yet, I have seen really skilled people absolutely rip it, and we continue to enjoy it a lot. I've met quite a few nice people here, as well.
There are only two things I don't like about Hot Spot. First, the name is not false advertising. In the summer, it's really hot--even for a "famously hot" Columbia native. But, given the location and size of the park, there's not much you can do about it. Keep this in mind if visiting in the Summer months. Of course, this can also be a bonus when it's cold. If you're a parent who doesn't skate, there is some shade for the seating area.
The other issue is the hours. Given the heat in the summer, I don't understand why it opens so late. It would be awesome if they opened it at 7am--at least in the hot months.
But, all in all, we're very grateful for what the city has done here, and impressed with how well organized it is. It's enough of a draw for me that when I come to town (or even pass nearby), I want to stay longer so that I'll have time to skate it. Inevitably, this leads to more eating out and even the...
Read moreGreat place for skaters of all kinds and levels.. All the visitors really seem to enjoy the park. Skaters are very courteous. Very nice employee in the early day hours. Should be promoted and protected a little more. The City of Spartanburg should take a little better care of the facility in whole. Some of the bleachers need new end caps and other general repairs are needed. There are shoes hanging from the powerline, telephone line and maybe in the fence. This has taken place very recently. City police department should take note and have a presence in the area. Also someone should contact Johnson Development to see if they could clean up the graffiti a little on the walls next door. That little piece of property has a lot of potential for growth of the skate park as well another...
Read moreSays "open" here, complete lie. Just went an hour's distance to find it blocked off. Nice one guys.
EDIT: I'm tacking this on because it seems I've gained some traction. Turns out that "closure" is due to renovation work. My bad on mucking that one up. Still... an update on the website would've helped.
EDIT 2: Took it upon myself to right the wrong I made and check out how this place is now. Gotta say, it's certainly a better experience. Lot of issues I had in my first trip here got addressed. Now it's a great place for those starting out AND those who know their way. They ditched anything wooden for concrete replacements, again a really good change. Overall? Now, it's well worth that...
