I had eaten at Sugar 'n Spice before, but had only gotten the burger as I normally do when I am uncertain of the quality of the food. Today I was looking for something different. So, I asked my wife who was born and raised in Spartanburg where we should go. Sugar n' Spice was the choice. The outside looks like a 50's drive-in, they still have the drive up area, but it does not appear to be utilized anymore. The inside is a little dated and they could use some new covers on there chairs. But the decor really goes with the feel of the place. I ordered the souvlaki which came with a side of fried, coleslaw and a slice of toast. The souvlaki smelled great and I had high hopes, but after taking my first bite I was totally overwhelmed by the amount of seasoning. I would love to try the same flavor with about 80% less seasoning and cooked medium as opposed to well done. But, I am not sure if a souvlaki is supposed to be this way or not. The coleslaw was ok and the fries were good but not great. You can get onion rings and fries, but I have to avoid the onions. I am not saying avoid this place, but be careful ordering the souvlaki unless you love A LOT of seasoning. Think I will get the burger again the next time the wife wants...
Read moreSo, after reading a glowing review about the Roast Beef Sandwich I happen to be nearby and decided to try this place. While I wasn't as excited about the meal as the other person I have to say the quality of the food was really good. The lettuce and tomatoes were fresh, the roast beef was also very nice, the bun was very fresh. However, that is where this stops being a good review...For heaven's sake what is wrong with these restaurants today, have you all bought into the absolute false and ridiculous narrative about SALT, OMG....how does any COOK/Chef worth their salary serve food with NO, ZERO salt on it. My wife's food was inedible, the fries while hot and fresh were so disappointing with NO SALT!! I'm not sure if we caught them on an off day or they believe this is what their cliental wants but I won't be visiting again, and while the food was fresh and well cooked, if you like your food seasoned, don't look...
Read moreTake a step back in time to the 60's ( because they never remodeled the place) to this Spartanburg S.C. landmark. The only thing to change is their prices! I visit every now and then for their double skewer souvlaki plate. It is the most expensive thing on their menu by far but the meat is the most tastiest beef you will put in your mouth. For what you see in this picture I paid almost $22 which is pretty sky high and the only reason I can't give them 5 stars. I got a snarky response back from the owner explaining how everything is more expensive now like I don't already know that. He went on to complain about how much he has to pay his employees which is not my problem that is his problem. If he keeps on passing the cost down to his customers he wont need to pay them high wages anymore, he will have to lay them off. I changed my original 4 stars down to 3 & wont ever go back there again. The owner seems like a...
