A very beautiful natural area at the junction of Latah Creek and the Spokane River, formerly a Spokane Tribe annual fishing and gathering place before their land was taken from them by White immigrants. The city has done a great job of improving the Parking Lot, landscaping, lighting, and walking access to the river, as well as the bike/pedestrian trail which goes from the parking lot to downtown as well as across Sandifur Bridge to the Centennial Trail. An important conservation area, with a great variety of native migratory birds; far better than nearby Finch Arboretum. There are quite a few walking trails, on nearly level ground. Yes, you will see some homeless people here, sometimes camping. I walk here all the time and have never had anyone bother me or ask for anything, other than the time (once). I've not seen anything "x-rated". What I see are people enjoying a natural area near the center of a mid-sized city. If you are scared off by the fearful reviews, I suggest stay in the suburbs…

People's Park Parking Lot is a great jump off point to all kinds of trails, both along the Spokane River, and Latah Creek. When I'm downtown and need a quick adventure with my puppy dog between appointments or errands, this is one of the top choices. We can go for a 20 minute romp or two hour exploration, and anything in between. There is usually plenty of parking (except maybe on hot summer weekends) and it's out in the open and less secluded then other choices from a security standpoint. There's a long stretch of paved pathway from the foot of the pedestrian bridge on the south bank, acrossed the river and winding up to the top of the hill on the north bank. This pathway also connects up with the paved pathways of the Kendall Yard development and Summit Blvd. Because of the switchbacks that hillside is relatively easy going exercise. Besides the paved there are plenty of dirt trails to choose from in all directions. Most of them are on the level and require pretty moderate physical exertion.

This is a parking lot near the Centennial Trail in Spokane. near here there is a bridge that crosses the Spokane River and the trail continues. Great bridge with fantastic views of the river. On the far side of the bridge, there is an easy way to walk down to the river. It does look like homeless people have camped here in the past. There is also a "mystery bike" on top of an old pillar in the river.

My mom used to bring us here back in the 70's when people's park was a nudist park.. I thought I could swim so I tried to follow my older sister and blam the current caught me and I went under and was drowning.. I swear I saw a fish in my face blowing air bubbles at me but next thing I know I'm choking waking up coughing out a bunch of water and my uncle Lenny was above me crying upset.. I guess he gave me mouth to mouth and brought me back is what I was told.. so I really used to love this area but now they tore all of it up and changed the way the whole area used to look it is unrecognizable now and I don't like it.. high bridge and the train that used to be down in that area is all gone and it makes me sad to see all my childhood neighborhood (West side) is all gone and...
