If the owner reads this please read all of it because something has to change. The public skate sessions are nice and the staff is more than willing to work with you. My only issue I have with this place is the staff are always on their phones and don't seem to care much about the job. They give bad vibes and always seem to be mad when interacting with the public. I do love the fact that they were very nice when I knocked my tooth out on the ice. I also wish that they would keep their public skates sharp because they are risking more injuries to the public. Your feet shouldn't be wobbling or sliding away from you when you're simply just moving forward. I've tried to skate on those rental skates and for someone with experience actually being decent at ice skating, it's a terrible experience and I honestly feel bad for those that skate for their first time. My sister's friend got hurt because the blades were not sharp enough and her feet slipped out from underneath her not even trying to skate. I've personally talked to someone higher up there and he was very rude when I had a simple question. I've also asked the staff if I could pay to have every rental skate sharpened for the public which would have costed me hundreds of dollars and they refused money. This place is honestly disappointing and not sharpening the public skates feels like a way to get the public to buy new skates from their pro shop which never have several sizes available other than ones for kids. This place just doesn't make sense and it honestly needs to change. I wanted to work there and get my foot in the door and maybe get more time to skate so I could get good at it. I would honestly work for free just to have more skate time. I already work hard enough as it is and this is one of my only hobbies that helps me forget about work. They obviously don't care as much as they should. My sister had the mascot at her birthday party and he didn't care either. He just stood there hoping to leave. This place needs more honest reviews because this place just feels sad. I plan on buying my own skates soon and maybe tomorrow but they never had the size available. Other ice skate shops are just way too far away and I might honestly travel to another state just to get a pair. I refuse to shop online because the pair may not fit and I've always bought everything else locally. Having wide feet feels like...
Read moreGreat place. If you want to skate a lot yearly passes are available. They have great learn to skate programs that are priced well too. They also House a youth in house hockey program as well as adult leagues. All non checking. The Springfield Spirt youth travel hockey team practices and plays here as well as the Missouri State University Ice Bears. They have figure skating programs as well. Any Bears games can be found on the Bears website and are a great cheap night of action packed fun. Only during season of course. The only thing that could use improvement are a place to actually secure items while public skating and a more consistent schedule. Even during the summer when hockey season is non existent accept in house the stick and pucks, drop ins and public skates change all the time. Don’t plan on having a set night to practice unless you are in a program. They also can and should place a guard to stop baseball and Shriners from parking illegally, but seldom do. Making parking an issue. I actually check the baseball schedule to determine if I will have parking before leaving the house. Home games you might have to pay five bucks for the garage. Which is a bummer as it’s all to easy to prevent. Over all being apart of the Spirit travel hockey and seeing many rinks around the state this one is...
Read moreThis place is ok. Last time I was here was about 2004 and it was pretty fun and a nice place but it’s a little rough nowadays. The ice was not shaved after a hockey game so ice was rough. Very hard to skate especially if you’re not an avid skater. The shoes need to be replaced as well. Probably the same skates they had back in 04. I could barely tie my shoes they were so stiff, the shoe also was deteriorating. I guess from all the disinfectant?? I would have asked for a replacement but that was the only one they had in a size 8. The music was from a little boom box and was hard to listen to. No sound system to play music?? And no railing to hold onto for amateur skaters like myself. It was very nerve racking when you had people skating all over the place, speeding past you, nothing really to grab onto, hanging out on the sides and having to skate around them because of course they don’t move. And twisting my ankle because I couldn’t get my laces on tight enough. I want to go back to learn how to skate but I’m a little hesitant to go back. If you’re not a good skater and are going to go to this...
