Edwards Place Historic Home — Attraction in Springfield

This place is a fun combination of local artists, and local history. One side was the Springfield Art Association, and they had a gallery setup with pictures and sculptures from local artists. Walk through the next door and you are in the historic Edwards family home. They actually have the courting couch that Mary and Abe sat on together. There are certain pieces that have been completely restored, others from the time period, some the actually belong to members of the Edwards family, and then you have the fun game of the wallpaper. Great Unique Experience! I feel like this is a hidden gem in Springfield. We had a wonderful detailed tour with very accommodating nice people. One of the few historical houses you get to walk through as it was without parts being roped off. A lot of Lincoln aspects. Love that he had spent time in the house & includes some Lincoln artifacts like dishes he dined with, the courting couch & a piano that most likely played at Lincoln & Mary's wedding. I have been on many historical home tours. This is one of the best - rich in history for the house and the people of the time. We were fortunate to have the curator as our guide, she was very informative and had stories on so many of the pieces in the home. Because the home has only had three owners, much of the authenticity has been restored through pictures, stories and uncovered treasures found on the property.
