Alamo is thee anchor when it comes to finding a place to have fun in the Downtown area. As bars have come and gone to Downtown, it's only fitting the Alamo still stands!) Born and raised in Springfield IL, the owner understands it's nice to have an establishment for no-nonsense good drinks and drink specials that you can look forward too. The Alamo’s uniqueness is it’s large beer garden which is unmatched in the downtown Old State Capitol area. You will find patrons that range from Governors, Mayors to your local part-time server and starving-artist and demographics everywhere in between. It's not a great music venue, regardless of who shows up. The sound is bad. The audio quality, is not good. The music is often too loud for the actual volume of the building, or the soundscape created by the brick walls and slot machines. The higher frequencies bounce around until you really can't hear anything.
Great musicians in a very middling performance space. The bartenders are good. The place stays clean.

Read moreThe Alamo is a decent place for drinks and bar style food. I was there for the 217 Burger Week entrant. It was good. Staff is nice, place looks clean, attracts a fairly mellow crowd and it's a fairly convenient location. Only thing I didn't care for was the live music and that we were literally sat at the table closest to stage and it was impossible to talk to my companions. The music wasn't bad just unexpected which was a bit of a bummer for us. Would go back but would definitely check their live music roster...
