This is our first time in St.Louis and we were recommended to come here by our Air BnB host. Drinks were great and the bartender was kind and efficient, but the doorman ruined the experience. Upon arriving, my boyfriend realized he had forgotten his mask (we’re vaccinated, have our cards, and our state lifted the mask mandate- we are by no means anti-vaxers or anti-maskers). The doorman came out and informed us we couldn’t enter without a mask- totally understandable, I was fully prepared to go to our airbnb to go get one. I assumed he was going to tell us to leave so I said “No worries, we’ll come back another night” at the same time he said the bar could provide a disposable one. Because we spoke at the same time, it took me a minute to process what he said. When I realized it, I said “oh that would be awesome” and he said “are you leaving or not? do you want one or not?” really aggressively. Just a bad vibe, it was uncalled for. Additionally, I had a little difficulty figuring out the password to enter. He allowed us in, but then he mocked me for not understanding the instagram post? Again, just uncalled for. It wasn’t in a friendly, sarcastic way. The man was not smiling. He was just really rude. After my boyfriend and I got our drinks, we sat down and tried to enjoy the atmosphere, but we were put off by the experience and only drank one drink. As we sat there, we watched the doorman hug an unmasked woman as she wished him a happy birthday. Then, he took a shot, which is 100% illegal in my home state. When my boyfriend and I left, we had our masks down and the doorman again had a sly comment for us. He said “Oh so you’re just not gonna wear a mask?” Like we didn’t see him hug an unmasked woman? If you’re going to have rules, be consistent. Don’t single out people you just don’t know. Despite the bartenders good service, I wouldn’t recommend this...

The Thaxton Speakeasy is a unique and interesting place to visit for anyone who seeks a change of pace from the usual bar scene. This speakeasy is hidden away, accessible only through a secret entrance, adding to its allure and mystique.

Once you're inside, you'll be transported back to the 1920s with its atmospheric lighting, vintage decor, and authentic speakeasy vibe. The specialty drinks are top-notch, with a focus on classic cocktails made with premium ingredients. From gin fizzes to old fashioneds, there's something for everyone.

One of the standout features of the Thaxton Speakeasy is the friendly but stuffy staff. They are knowledgeable about the drinks and the history of speakeasies, and are more than happy to make recommendations based on your preferences.

The best time to visit the Thaxton Speakeasy is on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday night when it is open to the public and not privately booked. However, it is first come, first served, so it's best to arrive early to ensure you get a seat. Note that while there are some special events with live music, most nights there is no live music.

Overall, the Thaxton Speakeasy is a unique and interesting destination for anyone who seeks an escape from the everyday. With its atmospheric decor, top-notch drinks, and friendly but stuffy staff, it's sure to provide a memorable and enjoyable experience for anyone...

I recently held my birthday celebration at the Thaxton and it was nothing short of AMAZING! The staff, Mad Dog, and KP were phenomenal! I started planning this party a year in advance of the date and had a lot of anxiety about it since I live out of state and was working with a tight budget. However, I had been to the Thaxton previously (I am an Stl native) and knew I wanted to do a Great Gatsby themed party with food and entertainment. From the moment I reached out KP was readily available to answer questions, address concerns, provide referrals, and even coordinated visits for the DJ and myself (while I was in town for the holidays in 2023). I have never worked with someone this closely on one project for so long and it was certainly worth it. From arrival to departure, the day of went so SMOOTHLY! I truly wish that I could hit rewind on my party and do it all over again. I will certainly remember this event for the rest of my life and I am still getting phone calls about the amazing time people had. I HIGHLY recommend this venue for private events OR for a date night during their regular business hours. The Thaxton Speakeasy will always hold a special place...

Got Married here! After a terrible experience with another Venue we first chose, we were able to find the Thaxton. The price was extremely reasonable, and they're very flexible about catering with many approved vendors (we used Mission Taco), and no restrictions on photographer, florists, etc where other venues only allow their pricey friends. Only caveat is the DJ must be their in-house one, but you should be honored to have Up-Town playing your tunes. The venue space easily held our 100 people party, and the atmosphere is 100% prohibition era speakeasy. Our guests said it was the best wedding they've ever been to, and it was the best one I've ever had(only 1, so far)! They will host other events, and if you like to drink you definitely need to get into the secret Facebook club so you can check this place out. Beautiful old building, great friendly staff, and all around amazing experience. 10/10 would get married here again!
