I left a 5 star review 7 months ago. I left the Mark Twain and came back twice this year. My first stay was great. My 2nd stay the price went from $116.50 to $121.50 a week for a shared bathroom. When I checked in I noticed dead baby roaches on my bed. I laid down to take a nap. Baby roaches we're crawling on the bed. I went to the check-in desk and asked to be moved to a different floor. The manager said it's up to her. She is a manager above me. That manager said No. She said something about me leaving. I said why do I have to leave I paid good money to stay here. She said, we'll spray for bugs but first I need maintenance to see if there is really roaches in your room. As if maintenance has time to stand and stare at my bed for a while. I was able to find a dead baby roach on my sheet so maintenance finally believed me. He sprayed a lot of bug spray. He said the bug spray was very similar to what the professionals use. 1 month later I seen a roach that look like it was in it's teens. I left a hotdog package on the sink for days. When I lifted it to throw it away there were about 30 to 40 baby roaches under it. I checked out and came back 2 months later. I strategicly avoided the floor with roaches. This time I thought I had a good room and would be happy to stay for a while. One of my windows was stuck and wouldn't open. The room can't getting too hot than cold because of the old fashion radiator heaters. I got tired of opening and closing the window. The light above my bed kept going on and off every 15 minutes. Both my sheets were flat sheets so they wouldn't stay on the bed. I was leaving to go donate plasma and decided to go to the front desk and ask if I had any mail. While waiting in line the older check-in lady told me to stop picking my nose. I said, this is my nose, this is my finger, I can pick my nose if I want to. I said, don't look at me; look at the computer screen. I said, she doesn't run me she doesn't pay my bills. I said, I will stand right here and pick my nose ain't nobody running me. And I did just that. When I finally got to desk, she said I have to go, I'll be back. I said rude b####. She said don't call me that. I said I've been standing here a long time. I ask the security guard to check my mailbox. I left out and told her I will be leaving a review to tell people about this ghetto hotel and I'm moving on Monday. I am so glad God has blessed me with my apartment. The rent is $225 a month including gas and electric. The property manager told me if I don't have any income the rule is I can stay if I pay $50 a month. Good luck if you ever have the misfortune of having to stay at the Mark Twain. These folk stressing me. I put a little cookie on the floor as a...
Read moreI have been reluctant to to write a review because this place definitely serves a purpose and that purpose is to provide temporary and transient lodging... however you do get what you pay for. For the most part the front desk staff can be tolerable if you respect them but depending on their personal moods can be rude and condescending, and since they know that most of the people who are there don't have have anywhere else to go they Ark what to tell you if you don't like something you can leave. The head of Maintenance at this hotel is a joke. After living there long-term, residents are definitely not the main concern. Money is. It shows in the lack of Maintenance to the laundry facilities which really need to be replaced to the elevators that are extremely old and constantly breaking down to the freight elevator that does not work so now the elevators at the residents use on the same ones they use for trash throughout the building. Another major issue in this building of course is the bed bugs which are all throughout the building. The the hallway carpets need to be replaced because they are filthy is there is a general odor throughout the entire building. This year the building got New ownership and I hope they take the time to actually invest in the residence. The location of this building is absolutely perfect because it's a half block from a grocery store a block from transit and plenty of restaurants and things nearby. However if you have a car parking is not provided so be prepared to spend more...
Read moreThis is a weekly hotel for those that can’t afford to get into a regular apartment. Many people coming out of homelessness stay here first.
If you’re visiting St Louis this is NOT your hotel.
This is a great place to stay if you need a place for a few weeks or months and you have limited means. Prices are $122-136 a week and some rooms you share a bathroom down the hall. There’s no AC so it’s bring your own window AC.
If you have decent credit and a little time for their wait list there are much better places to rent downtown for about the same or a little more money plus utilities but you have to have decent credit.(Gentry’s Landing and Mansion House)
If you find yourself in need for a weekly rental and need to be downtown this is it. Close to everything, grocery, library, banks, shops, restaurants etc. This is an old but clean building. They spray for bugs regularly and insist on housekeeping to see all rooms so they make sure it’s being...
