As a gold member, I stay in Marriotts frequently around the country. I prefer rooms higher up however we were only on floor 5 and they put us right next to the elevator. The room itself was okay, though the shower was very dated and there was mold on the shower curtain. For the price of the room with no other amenities such as free breakfast or even a pool, I would have expected a nicer bathroom- at least without mold, YUCK. The biggest issue came when we went to check out. When I asked about getting our car the manager at the front desk told me to use the app, when I informed her I did not receive any information regarding a valet app. She told me just to go talk to the people outside. Finally one of the valet drivers returned. However, when we gave him our name he could not find our keys and we were never given a ticket number. Apparently the front desk taking our keys and filling out the valet slip is not the way it is supposed to be done and they were not sure where our keys were. I went back inside to speak to the front desk, she did not have any keys at her desk. She proceeded to call who she assumed took my keys the previous evening. She then proceeded to call the valet driver who our keys were supposedly handed to, but he did not answer the phone. She told me she was waiting for the valet manager to arrive and she would continue to try and reach the valet driver to ask if he accidentally took the keys home. She said it sometimes happens that the driver's just put them in their pockets and accidentally take them home but he could return them as soon as she got a hold of him. I was stunned, this happens frequently enough she was just so casual in explaining this. At this point nobody could tell us if our car was even in the garage or if the car had been stolen. They offered us no place to wait, no breakfast, not even a water, she did not offer to remove the valet charge, nothing. She just expected me to stand around in the lobby until the valet manager arrived. She could not tell me when the manager would arrive just that she was on her way. At this point I was very frustrated that they were not doing more to find our vehicle/keys, they didn't seem to really care or recognize what a stressful situation this was for us. We still had a 5.5 hour drive home and work to get to the next day. I asked the valet driver if I could look through the cabinet of keys to see if he just missed them since we had no number for him to reference. I was able to locate the keys within the cabinet. However, they only had two valet drivers retrieving cars. So despite us already waiting over an 1.5 hours since we originally came downstairs, he retrieved someone else's car. I had to ask again if he was on his way to pick up our vehicle because we still had not received confirmation that our car was even in the garage. Also, it should be noted that no one ever asked to see my ID to even confirm that I was the person matching the ticket on the keys. While we continued to wait outside for the valet to retrieve our car, the woman from the front desk came out to ask us if there had been any updates or if we had spoke to the valet manager. When I updated her on finding the keys she told me the valet manager would want to speak with us but that if our car came before she did, we did not have to wait. I found this extremely irritating considering how long we had already been waiting and really none of the staff did anything to remedy the situation, I found the keys, I had to keep asking to get our car, I had to ask for monetary compensation, nothing was ever offered by them nor was there ever any extra effort really done on their part. Needless to say, I will not be recommending this hotel to anyone I will actually tell folks to avoid this hotel. And next time I come to St. Louis, I will be finding a different hotel, likely I'll stay at a Hilton since I'm also a...
Read moreBooking was a challenge as the hotel filled up quickly and double queen beds only option available; the price was reasonable.
Hotel has a nice exterior with an artistic flare; not quite Art Deco but Art Nouveau. If you are staying here you should take a minute to view the hotel from the exterior. Interior of hotel was quaint and comfy with some crowded but unique furnishings. There is a cafe with fixed hours that you can get food and drink. A Starbucks is across the street. Nearby is SugarFire BBQ (3 blocks away; a left from exiting hotel) and a nice Mexican restaurant (5 blocks down; a right from exiting hotel). There is a cookie place (5 blocks down; a right from exiting hotel).
Room was big with updated internet tv was easy if you wanted to use youtubeTV app and also had HBO channels. Internet was fast and easy to connect.
Fridge was not cleaned out from previous checkout. I always bring a sheet with me on business trips and chose to sleep on top of bed with my sheet as I had some concerns about the cleanliness of the sheets; they looked and smelled clean but I didn't' want to risk it. Bed was very comfortable with adequate pillow sizes; I have a serious neck condition and slept fine with no problems.
Hotel room had a great view of the downtown roof tops; 4 very large windows.
Hotel was accommodating by providing us a conference room on the 2nd floor with projector, screen and nice conference table. It says it holds 24 people but probably 10 tops. We worked for about 10-12 hours in there and had pizza brought in.
The cafe staff are friendly and you can buy breakfast; line gets a little long if you don't get there early in the morning; the US fencing team was there as well so hotel might of been more busy than usual. I generally ran over to Starbucks across the street for breakfast. I couldn't find a single vending machine on the property although there is a store by check-in desk; all Pepsi products; I couldn't find a Coke(sodas) on the entire downtown area; found a cookie shop. So buy a few Cokes (sodas) at the airport.
Hotel is right next to convention center(1-2 blocks away; a left from...
Read moreWe booked at this hotel for the location. Upon arrival, the ladies at the front desk were very nice. She explained how the parking worked and provided a map to the garage. The lobby and bar area is small but nice. We got everything up to our room. Walking in it's was such a bright, nice room. I was glad to see a little wet bar. I was sad there wasn't a microwave in the room. It did have a normal small refrigerator. We really enjoyed the views from the windows. The beds were comfortable. The bathroom was clean and fresh. We were fine with having housekeeping come every other day. The only issue I had with that is the day they came. They didn't touch up the bathroom besides changing the towels. They also didn't change the sheets on the bed, I only know that because the mattress pad was all scrunched up under the sheets, and they just pulled the covers up over it and didn't fix it. I even found a tissue under the covers. Yes, it was my tissue, but still. The room does have a hair dryer and ironing board in the closet. The location was great as we could walk to the arch and to bush stadium and the places downtown. One evening, we decided to go sit at the bar in the lobby to enjoy a beer. After waiting like 5 minutes or so, a lady showed up and seemed annoyed we were there. She wasn't exactly friendly, not like the ladies at the front desk. So I asked if I could take it to my room. I didn't go back to the hotel bar after that. Overall, we...
