I took in my low end acoustic guitar I've carried around with me for about 8 yrs now. I hardly played it, it never held a tune for long and I just didn't know any better on what it needed. I took it into a Guitar Center about 8 yrs ago in California and they put wire strings on it when it is a nylon string guitar. I didn't know. I brought it into Music Go Around, as I waited in line I heard the customer in front talking about his big box store experience and what he was told repair costs were going to be. The gentleman behind the counter was shaking his head saying from his understanding that was a highly inflated price. I checked in my humble guitar and was told it might be done that day or tomorrow for a restring. The inventory wasn't too bad in the store, this and that. Frankly everything is online and you can order anything so It'd be hard to truly stock in a music store these days. I got a call back that my guitar had more issues they'd like to fix and that it was a nylon string guitar (hence the damage starting) and I figured she deserved to be fix right so I had them do everything mentioned. I cant tell you my surprise when I went in the next morning. John was there told me everything he did (came in early, built a custom new bridge, fixed one of the string tuners that was slipping, put on new strings and did his best to stretch them, looked to see if they had a cover for a part that was missing prior to my arrival, maybe something else and tune before I arrived). After Guitar Center I was expecting to pay between 100-200 dollars plus... let's just say I stood there blinking at the receipt thinking I missed something. Like a 1 before the total he gave me. My mom even came with as a gift to pay to fix the guitar. We both looked at eachother in disbelief. Not only did John truly care for the nothing special guitar but he gave it new life, made it better than it possibly had ever been and it cost less than lunch for the two of us. All I can say is, old school. This place is truly about musicians and they're instruments. I wish I could have left a big fat tip for the man. I gave a hearty handshake to him and vowed to myself to make sure my daughters grandparents musical love/heritage never dies with me. Thank you for this...
Read morethis store is very good for 2 things, pedals and seevicing instruments. their instrument selection is rather small and a lot of their gear used so theres gove and take, you can find decent deals on items every now and again but most of the prices are pretty close to competitors so if you see something you want chances are its the same price as online so no need to pay shipping. The only real negatives to this store are its small selection of instruments and amps to choose from with a few keys and dome drum pieces. the stock isnt consistant as this place does sell a lot of used stuff so if you see something cool dont always count on it being there next week. The staff are really solid and will give you a good deal on trade-ins (better than guitar center by a long shot) so its a good place to quickly unload gear. they do have a points reward system so there benefit to returning as well and being a repeat customer. Theres a lot of convenience here but not much selection. I've been coming here for about a decade now and was introduced to the store by a drummer named eric.
Pros: convenient, fair priced, good trade-ins, friendly staff, convient location.
Cons: small selection, lack of deals, inconsistent items for sale.
overall score - 8.5 on a bad day 9...
Read moreI've been coming to Music Go Round for about 6 or 7 years now. If you're looking for salespeople that are going to up-sell you or pressure you into buying something that day, then you're in the wrong place. These guys always take care of you and make sure you leave happy. In-fact, my most recent experience with Music Go Round is what compelled me to write this review. I went in for a very minor fix that I just didn't trust myself to do, so I left it to Dominick (or Dominique, idk, his name-tag just said 'Dom'). He took care of the problem within 5 minutes and basically sent me on my way. I asked what I owed him, and he just said, "Remember us next time you need some gear." Last time I took my guitar to Guitar Center, they didn't charge me for the 10 minutes they spent examining it, but they tried to sell me $1,000 worth of "repairs" or "upgrades" (different pickups, raising the bridge, ect,) that I didn't want, and made me feel bad for saying no. You're not going to get that at Music Go Round; they're just going to make sure that you...
