Read moreTheir prices are damn cheap, it is unbeatable. But if you are like me, and use your power tools for work or school almost every day, then you are better off paying more for better name-brand tools. There tools are good for occasional home use. For example, I first bought a small Craftsman Compound Miter Saw from Sears Hardware (I think it was either 7 or 8 inches) and I bought the large 12 in Chicago Electric Double Bevel Compound Saw from Harbor Freight. The Chicago Electric saw is REALLY LOUDDD. With the Craftsman saw you don't need earplugs, but with the Chicago Electric its a MUST. I used the Chicago Electric saw inside my garage once, and after I was done I couldn't feel my ears (yes, I know it was dumb of me not to open the doors and wear ear plugs). Even though the Harbor Frieght saw is bigger it still shows a big difference. The similar issue applies to their angle grinders as well. I am a Welding Student, and before welding anything rust must be removed with an angle grinder. We use our angle grinders A LOT!! I own a Dewalt 4.5 inch Angle Grinder. Usually I grind pipes for 15-20 minutes straight, to get them clean, and I have no issue. However, I borrowed a classmates Drill Master 4.5 inch angle grinder one day. The same amount of grinding took me a little longer because of the vibration that made my hands numb. I had to stop frequently because I litteraly could not feel them by the time I was done. Again for occasional home use their tools are worth it, but if you are using it every day for school or work I wouldn't...
Read moreHF was formerly my go-to place for a single-use tool. You know, the tool you need to finish some random task that you will never use again. They have tools that are priced to match their quality: both pretty low. . However, we had a sales tax holiday for emergency preparedness. That made me think I would splurge for that spendy generator that HF has which never goes on sale. Their selection in-store was poor, so I wanted to buy online. Texas would allow us to recover the sales tax if bought online, but the local store has to attest the sale. . I wanted to make sure before spending so much money, so I went to the store and asked. Unfortunately, I was told by the cashier that HF would not affirm the form required by the state to recover the sales tax when bought online. Moreover, HF would only allow in-stock generators to be bought tax-free. . Maybe there is some stipulation of which I am unaware beyond corporate policy. However, the exchange left such a bad impression that I am crossing HF off my...
