I’m updating my review from 1 star to 5 stars to recognize the recent positive steps by management—especially their effort to bring back one of the seven group exercise classes that were cut. It may seem small, but it’s a meaningful gesture that shows they’re listening to members, and I truly appreciate that. I’m also excited about the 6-week trial of Strong Nation at 9 AM! It’s an incredibly empowering and high-energy class that has quickly gained a strong following. Even with the early time and summer travel season, it’s been drawing over 40 participants—a clear sign that it deserves a permanent spot on the schedule. While the 40-person requirement feels a bit unrealistic, the turnout so far shows how much members value this class. Despite some ongoing issues that haven’t yet been resolved, I want to recognize the effort being made and the positive momentum. Let’s keep moving in the right direction—step by step!
I’m so grateful for the amazing instructors at our gym—they each bring something unique and special to the experience!
AJ is an incredible Zumba and Strong Nation instructor who truly puts his heart into everything he does. You can feel his passion in the music, the balanced choreography, and the uplifting energy he brings to every class. He makes everyone feel welcomed and supported, and it’s no wonder his classes are always full—he’s simply the best!
Anita is another standout instructor—so dedicated and professional. She explains every move clearly, making her workouts approachable for all fitness levels. Her energy, attention to form, and commitment to helping us improve are truly inspiring.
Lidija leads fantastic Body Pump classes with a calm confidence that’s both motivating and reassuring. She explains each movement with care, creating a safe, effective, and enjoyable workout every time. Her positivity and warm presence make her classes something to look forward to.
Thank you to all of you for your hard work, passion, and dedication. You’ve made fitness something I genuinely love and look forward to!
I joined 24 Hour Fitness 18 years ago because I truly enjoy group exercise classes. Over the years, these classes have been the heart of the gym community, keeping members motivated and connected. Unfortunately, many group classes have recently been canceled without clear communication or explanation. This change has deeply disappointed many loyal members, and several have already left the gym because of it. Out of love for this gym, I’ve taken action—I spoke with the Sunnyvale support GM and manager, and even submitted a petition with 82 member signatures urging the return of group classes. Despite my efforts, it’s been over a week with no response or solution offered. I also followed up in person again last week and was still met with silence. The group class instructors are all professional, kind, and energetic, and they’re not the issue. The concern lies with the lack of responsiveness and transparency from management. It feels like the leadership team has become disengaged, and it’s frustrating to see a place with so much potential being mismanaged. I’m still hopeful that management will step up and address the concerns of their long-time members. I would love nothing more than to update this to a five-star review. But until meaningful change happens, I have no choice but to leave a one-star rating to help bring attention to this serious issue. And I know many other members feel the...
Read more(07/06/19) Downgrading my review further to 1 star. I'd give them 1/2 if I could. Staff is indifferent, you better watch your back there since if anything is stolen from you, not only can they do nothing about it (that's a given, we all know that petty theft is tolerated even by law enforcement), they will act like it and even more so, they dismiss you like a pest (basically pouring salt on your wound with their indifference). Decent gym and equipment but not the safest and certainly not the friendliest. I rarely go here anymore and largely split my time between the Arquez Location (the BEST staff) and the Mountain View Location (safer).
Also I agree with many others that the standard of cleanliness at high traffic times (7-9pm) just isn't there. Bathrooms are straight disgusting. They need to have the staffing doing their self proclaimed "Team Cleans" more often.... I hear them announce it on the intercom but I don't see it being done with much vigor or enthusiasm. All goes back to customer service: the staff TOP-BOTTOM seem like they'd rather be anywhere else but there. I echo many folks' sentiments here regarding the management here. They don't manage, and they don't care.
One final point about removing the towel service: everybody knows it's not for the environment since someone has to wash the towels - and clean people who go to a dirty gym will wash them after 1X use - so the towel washing will continue and it will harm the environment and consume the resources of mother earth just the same, only difference now is that the COST will be PASSED ON to the customer. The marketing people could have at least made their reasoning seem less ridiculous and more sincere in their print ads by encouraging members not to wash towels at home after at least two uses!
(10/25/18) Downgrading my review to 2 stars from 4. Staff was not very helpful and I swear my bag got stolen from my locker on the night of 10/25/18...but how? It mystifies me, what happened to it? I am very particular keeping my things in order. I returned the following day to speak with management because I really felt like the staff felt genuinely inconvenienced by my request to have them check their Lost & Found. The Interim manager listed to my feedback but also seem a bit inconvenienced. I was happy she took 5 minutes to listen though. Customer focus I think is a key value for 24-Hr fitness corporate: so far I have not seen demonstrable evidence of this @ the Sunnyvale location by the folks at the front-desk. One thing I was super appreciative of though was the surprising empathy and honesty I was greeted with by of one of the service people doing the towel cleaning. She actually informed me that theft happens all the time at this location (I did not know this before then) and that she was sorry that it happened to me! I think she should be running the location! :-)
(Pre-2018) One of the better 24s in the Bay Area, I like the cleanliness of the facility overall and the newness of the workout mats. Wish other 24s would follow suit. One thing I really wish management would do is rip out the carpet in the front where you walk in, it's gross and would be better served as the normal rubber material that covers the rest of the workout floor given it's frequent use as a stretching, sit-up etc space by...
Read more5/21/25 - Updating this review since we finally got 1 of 7 classes that were cancelled added back last week on a trial basis!! Thanks to the GM and the management team for listening. The class was full w/ 23+ people on the waiting list!! We hope this is just the beginning in bringing more group classes back. AJ, Anita, Lidija, Caroline and all of the instructors have always been awesome and they are an essential part in enabling such a strong GX community.
4/22/25 - My family and extended family have been with 24 Hour Fitness for 15+ years because we enjoy the group classes with excellent instructors. Over the years, these classes have been the heart of the gym community, keeping members motivated and connected as we work toward our fitness goals. Unfortunately, many group classes have been canceled without clear communication or explanation. This change has impacted negatively many loyal members, and several have already left the gym because of it.
We have tried to raise the issue with the Sunnyvale 24 Hour Fitness's GM and GX manager, and even submitted a petition with 82 member signatures urging the return of group classes. Despite our efforts, there has been no response or even a token of effort demonstrated to address the issue.
Sunnyvale 24 Hour Fitness's GM stated that the focus has shifted toward personal training, leading to fewer group exercise options. While personal training has its benefits, but they are not a fit for everyone and they aren't accessible financially to everyone. On the other hand, group classes have proven to be a vital part of the gym experience for many members. Many members only come to the gym for the GX classes. Please, don’t underestimate the importance of community that the group classes foster. While we understand that at the end of the day, having a viable and profitable business is your top priority, but please keep in mind that if you lose your existing members which make up your baseline revenue, your business and ability to attract potential customers will be significantly impacted. There are so many new gyms out there and 24 Hour Fitness' pricing is not as competitive anymore, and in some cases, more than other newer gyms.
We hope to see the Sunnyvale 24 Hour Fitness' management team decide to step up and address the concerns of a huge segment of their long-time members. The ask is simply to reinstate the classes that were canceled and stop cutting out more classes. We would love nothing more than to update this to a five-star review as soon as progress...
