My LA Fitness experience at Sawgrass amid COVID-19.
I have been a member with LAF for more than 10 years. Prior to the novel Covid-19 statewide shut-down, I workout 5 - 6 times per week. More specifically, I have worked with an extraordinary personal trainer 3 times a week for the last 18 months.
The tragic and deadly onset of the pandemic, and being over the age of 65, caused me to consider forfeiting paid personal training sessions and canceling my membership with LAF. Since the novel Covid-19 was ubiquitous, I deemed it impossible for LAF (Sawgrass) to consistently apply and enforce CDC protocols to my satisfaction, safety and comfort.
I stand corrected! It started with the terribly-friendly Front Desk staff diligently owning monitoring the ingress and egress of members and staff without exception.
My personal trainer (and Mgmt) shared and acknowledged my concern and apprehension about returning to the club. On day 1, post shut-down, my trainer explained and underscored the location’s commitment to CDC protocols and the employment of additional staff for continuously cleaning and sanitizing. Nonetheless, every member is responsible for cleaning/sanitizing equipment before and after use.
It is not lost on me to note, that my certified(NASM) Master Trainer Leilla -is professional, incredible, exceptional, creative, motivated, goal-driven, patient and communicates well with each client. She readily explains and demonstrates the proper and improper form with each exercise. While training clients, she sanitizes every piece of equipment prior to and after use. Her discipline and diligence quickly dispelled all my apprehension, allowing me to continue with my training amid...
Read moreI've been a member of this Gym on Sawgrass for about a year I mostly got it for my teenage son, now his off to college I do not need this membership anymore so I went to cancel and here's where the ordeal starts, I went around 7:30pm and was told that cancellations are only done during the day yet they were doing a new membership at that time, so I went the next day. Next day which is the exact day I'm writing this review I showed around 11:00am I approached the guy at the front and asked him that I needed to cancel my membership and he said that only Stewart (Stuart) can do cancelations that he will help as soon as he shows up to his desk, 10 minutes pass and no Stewart, 15 minutes pass and no Stewart, so approached the guy in the front desk again and i asked if he can reach Stewart and he told me that when you got to go, you got to go that Stewart was taking a dump...he literately said that and that after taking a dump he was going to take a shower, so that pissed me off I told him that all they were doing is just stalling, I got loud on the Gym and said exactly all that he just told me so that everybody in the gym will know that the only person in charge of the place its been taking a dump for 15 minutes and then will take a shower, as soon as i did that Stewart showed up really quick told the front guy to leave and cancel my membership in less than a minute. Don't let this people bully they will do the impossible to get you mad so that...
Read moreOverall the place is pretty well maintained. The staff is friendly and quick to take notes if something is out of order. Sometimes the pool could use a little attention, but that's to be expected. The members are all pretty considerate and ask if you're using a particular piece of equipment or help out with a spot if you're by yourself. They lose a star with me for two reasons: The members are really bad about racking their weights when they're done with them. The gym staff should do a better job of racking weights that are clearly not in use in between personal training appointments. Putting up a little sign doesn't help because this is a constant problem on the second floor of the gym and there are weights EVERYWHERE. The other reason is because of the machine maintenance, particularly the treadmills, bikes, stair climbers and ellipticals. There are usually multiple machines out of service and sometimes the machines are left for a couple of weeks. Life Fitness buys back broken machines (relatively quickly) but they have to be notified. They should probably hire a maintenance person to maintain the machines and stay on top of the service orders/schedules. Just a thought. This gym earns huge bonus points for having the supplement companies come in and demo products for...
