I have been shopping at Grocery Outlet stores for 18 years, since a freshman in high school. Since moving to North Tacoma in 2014, I shopped at the 6th ave location. Unfortunately, I do not enjoy going in to this location because I am constantly harassed about bringing in my own bags. There is a man who works there that almost preys on people and is hyper vigilant about questioning people who bring in reusable grocery bags. I understand that this Grocery Outlet location has a policy about using a basket or cart and not using reusable bags to shop which I respect. I just recently I went in to buy some groceries and was carrying my reusable bags and my purse. The man approached me and was about to say something and I said “my reusable bags are empty”. He tried to look at my purse and I said “this is my purse, not a reusable bag.” I went to my friend who I was shopping with and told him that the same man was harassing me and making me feel uncomfortable. After we paid and left the store, my friend told me that the man approached him and apologized. I am not sure if the employee is intimidated by women or has a problem with women, but he should have apologized to ME who he harassed and not the person I came into the store with. This man has also been problematic in other ways- giving his opinion on people who use cannabis and according to people I have talked to, he has made religious comments. I have kept my mouth shut for the past year and tried to let it go, but this person can’t be a creep and treat customers like this anymore.
From now on, I am going to drive those extra few miles to shop at the 56th street store. The employees there are really friendly and I have never had a problem with them. They let me shop in peace without making me feel...
Read moreAlright, so I have been going to this specific Grocery outlet in Tacoma on 6th Ave for several months now. Today, I am displeased to say, has been one of the most embarrassing experiences of my life. Myself and two of my friends were stopped, about a minute after we entered the store, by someone with a long black pony tail(possibly the manager?). The way she stopped us was by yelling across the store "GIRLS" when I turned around she did not say anything until I asked what she wanted. She then, instead of walking up to us to explain, yelled "WE NEED TO CHECK YOUR BAGS". Extremely embarrassing. She further explained that any backpacks need to be locked in a locker up front. As I have worn the same backpack EVERYTIME I have been to this store we asked when the policy had been put in place, and if it was safe to put our bags up front. She then went on to say that the policy had been in place "forever"and provided a lock to secure our backpacks. Oddly enough only 2 out of the 3 backpacks we had were required to be locked up... It was obvious at this point that we were being profiled as shoplifters. Now I am all for safety etc. But I feel very embarrassed and targeted by my experience today and would recommend anyone experiencing similar things report them asap. I feel the embarrassment could have been avoided by walking up to me in person and explaing the situation. And if it is a policy enforce it everytime. Instead of picking targets to embarrass. I have also posted this review to thier...
Read moreUsually, I like this store because I can find good, wholesome(and wholesome lol) snacks. Tonight started good but ended unpleasant but quiet....while I was already shopping in store for 25 mins or so, an employee comes up to me and says "fyi, you need to use a hand basket...the store would rather you use a hand basket, than your shopping bag because people have been known to run out with groceries without paying! Just fyi!" I look at my bag, look back at him, smile and say ok. Now, I've worked at enough grocery stores to know....this is understandable! But that had me wondering also...was this said to the man(whom I saw in parking lot, going to store w/ bag which reminded me to grab mine) that entered 3 minutes before me....who was also shopping with bag! I laughed to myself and decided it was time to leave this establishment. As I leave, AFTER PAYING for my groceries, I just happen to catch a glance of the little tower of handbaskets while I was walking out the door. It was then when I got upset because if I did use a handbasket...what the hell is to stop me from running out with that basket compared to my shopping bag? I'll wait....!!! Sometimes when not intending, you can say things that should be...
