The grape leaves aka dolmades/dolmas were actually the amazing star of our meal. Warmed and plated on a bed of tangy lemon sauce, so nice!!! I ended up with a chicken gyro because the one disappointment was that as they buy in bulk and packaging has to go away, there wasn't a guarantee that the lamb/beef gyro meat didn't have soybean oil in the processing. Otherwise, the chicken gyro was fine, though I have to remember to have them leave out the tomatoes. Yes, I have some food sensitivity issues. My sister had the gyro plate, which was heaping and she also really liked their turmeric rice, with plenty to take home and have later. The kebeh was nice and crunchy with the meat filling being moist and a good mouth feel. To drink, my sister had regular black coffee and I had the bottled Mango Dough, which is basically a slightly thinned Lassi (yogurt drink). Flavor was just right, though I like my Lassi on the thicker side. Staff was friendly and helpful. Parking can be tight, it's better to just park behind in the Grocery Outlet and walk over. Use the middle door as I think that they combined two rental spaces into one for their restaurant. I would guess that seating capacity is probably 25, with booths and small tables along the front and side and just a couple of larger tables...
Read moreGreat new spot by folks who made the gutsy decision to turn their specialty market into a restaurant during COVID-19. It paid off as they were serving picnic-worthy food at a time when dining in wasn’t much of an option.
Their hummus is good but the vast majority of people have had so much hummus that it’s pretty hard for any restaurant to stand out. The baba ghanoush, though, is pretty special and I was probably a fool not to order the fool mudamas but will next time.
The standouts were the cauliflower sandwich and spinach pie. The cauliflower was cooked perfectly and well seasoned and the sandwich just had a lot of flavor overall. The spinach pie was the star of the show, though, even though I didn’t even get to it until a few days later when I brought it for lunch at work (we bought a ton of food).
I hope they start making their own pita at some point as the pastry on the spinach pie made me fully convinced me that theirs would be awesome but I realize it’s hard to make pita in-house that doesn’t break apart when it’s holding a sandwich.
Only disappointment was the Greek salad that was heavy on iceberg lettuce.
Note to fellow vegetarians: The menu is kind of confusing in that it makes it look like there are only three veggie items when the bulk of it is veggie and a...
Read moreEDIT: We returned and while the food is still excellent, the prices have gone up and the service was terrible! The owner was not there and a younger man was running the restaurant. We spent nearly $50 on two dinners and drinks and our food was brought out with the cheapest, flimsiest plastic flatware imaginable. I asked for some stainless flatware, but the man rudely replied that there wasn't any. Such excellent mediterranean hospitality. The young man then sat at another table and played on his computer. There were plenty of things he could be doing - like wiping the salt & pepper shakers, which were disgusting. I may go back for take-out sometime, but the restaurant itself isn't worth the frustration anymore.
PREVIOUS REVIEW: Fast friendly service in a family-owned restaurant. We ordered a couple of beef & lamb gyros and a large Greek fry and everything was out of this world good! The owner came out and we talked about this & that and we were made to feel very welcome. After we had finished our meal and were getting up to leave, the owner offered us a nice dessert to take home, which we will enjoy with a pot of tea this evening. Overall, it was a lovely experience and I'll gladly be...
