Went here for an "Ice cream social" and to tour the two historical buildings. It was a great experience. The tour guides are very dedicated and have a deep love for the city of Tallmadge and it's history. If you go upstairs in the Building in front of the old church there is a unique detailed mini version of what the town of Tallmadge would have looked like years ago. Take a walk behind that building and you'll come to the huge beautiful church. Inside you can walk in the old sanctuary or walk up the stairs and go on the balcony over looking the sanctuary. They will even let you ring the big bell on top of the church building. However They aren't open for touring every day, only when there are events such as Ice cream socials or the 9/11 memorial they have. Overall it's a great experience. Even when the buildings are closed, there is still a neatly kept park area surrounding the buildings with a military memorial, and several park benches...
Read moreThis church is a stop on the Ohio History Connection passport. A tour of the inside of the church is by appointment only through the Tallmadge Historical Society or if they hold a special event. The church is located right inside Talmadge Circle. The church itself is a Federal style landmark by master builder Lemuel Porter. It was finished in 1825 and is one of the oldest churches in Ohio. It has a two story portico and a hundred food steeple and weathervane. The inside has wooden floors and pews and the choir loft floors are rugged and were built to last. There is a pipe organ as well in the back of the pulpit. The basement is most interesting, a dug out space supported by stone walls and a very low ceiling. Our tour guide was a former Tallmadge mayor and provided quite a bit of information on the history and structure of the church. To note, they misplaced their passport stamp so we were not able to get our book...
Read moreAbout as pretty as small town churchs can get. A real treat, although not much more than a one time attraction. Certainly worth your time if you can come from nearby, but don't expect anything to crazy. I like it, but my aesthetic taste is completely and utterly ravaged by my declining mental health, so take that...
