Pat is an exceptional painter and visiting his art gallery is truly an experience in itself. Both Pat and Carmen(Pat's wife) are wonderful hosts and very kind people. I was fortunate to take a painting lesson with Pat and I'm so glad that I did that. Not only is he a wonderful artist but an amazing teacher as well. I completed this whole painting in a single lesson (~3 hours) and I'm so so satisfied with the result and really proud of myself. Pat explained all the basics of oil painting and was patient to answer all my questions. I learned so much from him, and it's a memory that will last a lifetime. I've done some acrylic painting before but I tend to get very indecisive and not very confident with bold use of colors. But Pat helped me to overcome some of those challenges in easy to follow instructions.
If you're in the Taos Plaza area, definitely check out his place and if you're thinking of taking a lesson don't hesitate just go for it. I know it's not cheap, but I consider myself fortunate to get 1:1 lesson from a wonderful artist and the learnings will last...
Read moreWithout saying hello, Pat abruptly and angrily told me to get out of his store. I was confused and asked if his store was closed, not knowing why he was yelling at me. It turns out my girlfriend washed her hands in the bathroom and that upset Pat. If Pat doesn't want someone using the bathroom that's in the public gallery area, I recommend he put up a sign. I was shocked by his rudeness and lack of compassion. Edit 9/3/21 based on Pat's response: we were masked and Pat wasn't, not the other way around; this is why it was ironic COVID was the pretext for his tantrum. Also, he didn't hear the toilet flush because, as I said, my girlfriend was just washing her hands. If there were signs, my girlfriend didn't see them, but we don't think there were any. It was one thing for the tantrum that day, but to lie about who was wearing masks that day is icing...
Read morePat makes some beautiful paintings but I wish his personality would reflect that beauty. When a friend and I went in there, he yelled at my friend (potential buyer) when he took a picture of a painting to send to his wife to see if they could afford it and if she approved. Pat started getting very angry and yelled at my friend saying there is a sign that says no pictures on the front door. My friend told him he was sending it to his wife before purchase but he would delete it. Pat continued to yell and insult my friend even after deleting the picture. Upon walking out we saw the no picture sign he was referring to but it was about 3x5 in and not noticeable at all. Needless to say we took our business elsewhere. Like I said I love the art but the artist needs to...
