This place gave me an impression I didn’t expect. Based on the reviews I was thinking it would be pretty good. First impression - I walk in at around 6 pm, it’s still light out and at this time you want a nice quiet dinner but their music is so loud, luckily we found a table in the back where it wasn’t an issue. The table where we settled had a stain and I asked the waitress to clean it, she gently swiped that spot but it remained, I asked again and this time with some effort applied she got it off. As we were waiting for the order I noticed the main scent of the bar is spilled beer smell which suggests it’s not the best place but the food was on the way and there was no way out of it. The appetizer (sweet potato tamale I believe it is called) was truly amazing, hence I’m leaving 2 stars and not 1! Then the tacos arrived: I had a bite of the chicken one which was so bland and flavorless, a mushroom one was average. While eating I started smelling tobacco… Turns out the patio door was ajar and people were smoking out there. Maybe to some folks out there outdoor smoking on the property of a bar is ok but not to me. Why is that door open and everyone inside has to tolerate that disgusting smell. Also worth mentioning their prices! They are a $$ restaurant but the prices are as if you’re at a $$$ one. A plate of tacos $22?! I thought they were gonna be special for that price but they were worse then the ones at a cheap truck place....
Read moreWe stayed at the Taos Inn and the hotel was good. My wife and I were excited to grab a bite and listen to music. When we went to go eat we asked the hostess if we could sit outside and she rudely told us it would be 30 mintues. She offered us a table indoors and when I asked if we could just sit and wait for the outdoor table she again rudely told us "NO!! Once we seat you you cannot move". So we kindly said we would wait. My wife and I started to walk towards the bar and she again rudely (yelled this time) "The bar is closed and we couldn't go up to the bar". At this point I was getting upset with the continuous rude attitude. Another host that was very friendly stepped in. I explained to her that we are staying at the hotel and if we go to our room could they call us or text us. She kindly declined and told us to just come back in 30 mintues. We went back to our room grabbed a drink and sat in the hotel court yard. After waiting our 30 mintues they had our table ready, but out front with no music. I asked if we could sit outside where the music was and was told No...the service would be slow, because they only had one server in the back. Sadly we left and enjoyed dinner somewhere else. I hope that the management thinks of more creative ways to entertain their guests while they wait and have their employees explain their rules in a much more...
Read moreThis is another bar/restaurant that limped out of the pandemic to become worse than ever. Positive our 19yo inexperienced waitress was on drugs. She mentioned that the kitchen hadn't noticed our order, which is 100% nonsense since she brought out a giant plate of nachos that had clearly been sitting under the heat lamp for quite awhile. Getting your desserts from the food truck and attempting to pass them off as authentic when it doesn't resemble "tres leches" cake (which is one of the simplest peasant desserts ever, btw) doesn't cut it for locals or tourists. We're local and just moved back. Unfortunate to see that the Adobe Bar has fallen to the degree that the staff is worse than ever and so is the overpriced food, but we've been told this is a reflection of how many hospitality professionals left the area in the past few years. This place is a tourist trap; it's not "the living room of Taos." Do better. We used to enjoy the music and sitting outside on the patio, but seriously, the service and food at Adobe Bar have gotten worse so we don't plan to go back. It's definitely a bar with historic status; but this doesn't change the fact that poor hiring practices coupled with sub-par food makes it an adequate choice to frequent. The location is great, but you're coasting on a reputation that's no longer valid. Locals know this; I give praise where...
